Camping in Gatlinburg/Pig Forg with pets

DH says he ain't going if the dogs can't come too.

They do have some pet friendly cabins that we could rent. However, most say a limit of one small dog (one of ours is a black lab). We could pull our 5th wheel. One campground I found said in their pet policy that pets could not be left unattended at camper. Does this mean we would have to take them with us wherever we went? That won't work.

I read that they weren't allowed on trails in the GSMNP - so I would think we couldn't camp with them at Elkmont or some of the campgrounds in the National Park.

Any ideas or feedback.

Why would they have allowed pets in their cabins only a year ago ? Why not now ?

We stayed at creekside rv resort. No problems leaving the dog in the camper there.

We are planning to go in 2011. We have had several friends suggest Twin Creek RV Campgrounds. It looks great and you can rent a car on site and they have trolley service to Gatlinburg. You may want to check them out.

By far the best camping we have done in Gatlinburg is at Smokey bear campgrounds located on Hwy 321. They have about 40 sites and 2 cabins to rent. Very friendly owners. It's about 6 miles outside of Gatlinburg but very quiet and in the woods.

I do have that one on my short list. The site says some pet restrictions apply. Some places have a weight restriction, others won't allow two dogs.
