I was just wondering...

Our plans keep changing on a daily basis! We were originally planning to go in August, but now we're thinking about December instead. How is it to camp in December at Ft Wilderness? Does it get pretty cold at night?

Thanks in advance!

if you go in August - make sure you have AC

if you go in December - make sure you have a space heater.

i have never gone in December, but we hit a chilly patch at night while staying in October once. glad we had a space heater to take the chill off in the middle of the night.

Yes, it can get downright chilly!! I tent camp every December in a tent and I'm thankful for my electric blanket :-)

I don't use a space heater in my tent cause I guess I've been so ingrained over the years to not have ANY type of flame source inside tents. I know the new ones are safer, but probably still won't go there.

You definitely need heat! We stayed in FtW 2 years in a row around Christmas. Some days it will get into the 70s but some nights will get down into the 30s believe it or not. Its weird but I think we feel colder down there somehow compared to NY. Maybe its because we are outside so much more than when we're at home. Don't forget to bring layers since due to the temperature fluctuations.

If you are going in Dec. you need to get your ressie now. I still can't get a full or preferred hook up past Dec. 24th.

While we weren't camping...we went last year end of November-first of December....had the AC on in the room!

May I suggest nice snuggly down comforters and a pair of cats? Both easily removed if one gets too warm :)

thanks everyone for the information!!

if DH and I go, it will be before Christmas. we're looking at the week I finish my finals and it would only be for maybe 3 nights at the most. just long enough for a quick getaway!

I do plan on bringing the snuggly comforters, but the kitties? DH tolerates our cat, but there's not a chance that he'd let her sleep with us...lol

We've stayed in December plenty of times. Although it can get chilly at night, when tent camping we have always just used an electric blanket. We have always stayed toasty warm by using the electric blanket between our sleeping bag and another blanket on top. The hardest part is to remember to turn it on about an hour before going to bed!
