Camping Community Board??

Would you want a camping community sub forum?

  • Yes - I'd love a community board just for campers

  • No - I like the chit chat thread format currently in use.

  • No opinion - Happy either way

I voted "NO".
I also have to agree with almost everything BDR said! The only part I don't agree with is hating my neighbors... I like most of them and only hate one of'em!! :goodvibes
When I came on here looking for info for our 1st trip I received all the information I needed plus.. I also found a lot of humor in the posts that were listed which...made me come back to read more even after the trip.
I spend a lot of time reading the posts but not posting... I find I learn more and more each time I read a post. By next year I think I'll be an expert from all the tips and info I get here and I will enjoy doing it!

I say keep it the same and ALL of you keep up the good work! Every post I have read always gets answered before wandering off into some form of drinking thread!!!:lmao:

I posted yes. I find it time consuming to weed through all the clyclical duplicate posts of information that is very trivial. I just want to have a virtual forum. For people that are concerned with what loop they are getting 4 months from now, let them go to their own special place.

This comment kinda ticks me off. As a newer person on this board, I come to here to get this so called "clyclical duplicate" information. I have made a lot of decisions for my upcoming trip based off of information on this board. I try the search function ALL THE TIME and sometimes it works great and others, not so great. So, the "clyclical duplicate" posts are great for me.

I find it time consuming to read thru all the off topic stuff on this board and then when I do make posts and get comments like "try the search function" with no further info given to help or "Here we go again with..." Makes me want to go elsewhere to find my info. These are questions that I too have and have not thought to ask. But when posters get the blasting of "try the search", etc, how do you think they feel? They will go elsewhere where they can find the help without feeling belittled.

I guess the board owners and moderators need to decide what this board is for. Is it for info? Is it for chit chat? or both? I for one can't see another reason for another sub forum, but I do believe the forum mods and owners need to step up and help the people looking for info instead of allowing others to post "try the search function".

Sorry to be negative, but it is how i have been feeling about this board lately.

You know, I see that elsewhere on the DIS, but I don't recall EVER seeing it on the Camping board. Besides, the search function only works about 25% of the time if you're lucky.

I voted yes. I think it would be great for reviews on camping that may not have anything to do with FW or Disney. It could be good for chit-chat...a place to discuss your favorite brew, who met who, who's doing what, a place to rant, and a place to show your appreciation, and a place to just chill and not worry about if you can post that OT thread or not. :)

Most of all it would be a great spot for newbies that want to know more about types of tents, tow vehicles, RVs and such that we all use.

Als right.....I may have seen a "Do a search" once or twice, but it was a comment at the end of the best answer the responder could come up with....sorta like..."Yes, they do blah blah blah, but Im not sure about the blah blibbity blip, maybe you can find it through a search, but good luck with THAT"....we ALL know the search only works when ya dont really need it to.

u.P. North, Im sorry that youve been given an answer like that here...are you sure it was on THIS board? Because thats kinda what "Do a search" says to me...."Get lost and find out for yourself!" It IS very rude, and the people here just aint like that, not even Gatordad!!! :lmao:

Just as I find it time consuming to read all the threads that ask the same darn information every two weeks. With a sub-board, you wouldn't have to wade thru the off topic stuff, and those who don't want to wade through the questions wouldn't have to. I don't see a lot of people being told to utilize the search. Agreed, the search function doesn't work all that well, but I doubt most of the people even try.

AWWW SHUCKS :lovestruc:blush: thanks Jen. ;)

Ok - New Rule!!! Nobody's allowed to just answer a post by saying "do a search". If you don't know the answer, then don't post. :goodvibes

Of course, if you want to give the best answer that you can, followed by "if the search function is working, you may want to try that to see if there are better answers than mine" or something similar, that would be fine. :)

Heh-heh. I love making rules. Now, whether people believe that I really have the power to do that or not, remains to be seen. ;)

I can honestly say, I have never seen anyone post a reply like that on the camping board, others yes, here NO! But it is a good rule anyway! I have been on the receiving end of some humor, that I took the wrong way (uhumm cough gatordad cough) ;) so I can empathize, but with a little explanation, everything was a o k.

it's all good, we are cool now.

Yes, M'am. (raising my right hand up in the air to pledge) I shall not tell another sole to go and do a search, even if they have lost something!:lmao:

I've NEVER noticed a response like "do a search" on this board. People here are all to willing to answer a question in DETAIL. I have seen that type of reponse elsewhere, and I'm not sure I can mention where..but I'm sure we've all experienced it. In fact, I think that's the main reason so many people wind up right here..they've been frustrated on other boards.
In any case, a sub forum might be the best of both worlds. For someone looking for strictly information..it's available. For those looking for a more social experience...a sub forum would provide that also.

comments like "try the search function" with no further info given to help or "Here we go again with..." Makes me want to go elsewhere to find my info.

Wow!! I've never seen anyone on the camping board come back with this remark, either. 99.9% of the time, you'll get a direct answer long before the post goes off in another direction. People who camp have this un-written allegience to other campers. It's just somehow built into our DNA to help each other.

But, stick around, ask any question about FtW, or camping in general. You will get an answer other than "try the search function". (Which I personally, have never gotten to work!)

Wow...I must be the only one then because I have gotten that response. But all is good. I can get the info I need.
