We are going to FW in Aug. and do not plan on going to the parks at Disney. We are going to Universal instead.Just wondering if anybody else has done this and what their experience was like. There is 5 adults and 3 teenages in our group. We decided on FW because for the size of our group and the cost isn't that much more than the other campgrounds in the area.

We haven't done it...but my kids do love Universal Studios. Next time we go we are planning a longer trip and may include a couple days at Universal as well as WDW. Fort Wilderness is a great campground all on it's own..even if you don't go to any parks :)

If you look on top of this site you will see the ad for $86 per person for a 7 day 2 park pass. IMO that's a pretty good deal. Once you use it though it expires on the 7th day. A lot of people think it's good for 7 days anytime so don't forget that. Even though we would much rather stay at the fort I would consider staying at Turkey Lake Park which is very close to USO. I stayed last month for $15 a night.

We did this when we were there for spring break a couple of weeks ago. We had a pass for Seaworld so we went there one day, also finally went to Gatorland (kids had a great time there). Other than a mini-golf outing at Winter Summerland, and a night at Cirque du Soleil, we just relaxed at the campground, and we had a great time. We were just at the parks last summer, and though our kids enjoy it everytime, we think its good to space it out a bit so it is more meaningful for them (they were starting to get ho-hum, "been there, done that" about the parks).

I'm hoping we can go for a longer-term stay next summer at the fort, and we'll plan on doing all the parks again then.

My sister's and my family do it all the time!! It's great. :goodvibes We will go up 2-3 times a year and just camp and not do one park. What we try to do instead is fish and explore. our kids have a blast. In fact we are going back in June to do that again. The kids actually have time to just run around and be kids!! No scheduling aloud:rolleyes: Hope you have a great time!!!

We thought about Tukey lake but I couldn't find much info.Do they allow camp fires and do the have showers?By the way we will be tenting.

The comfort station at Turkey Lake was clean and it did have showers. I'm not sure about campfires. You can call them at (407) 299-5581 and ask.

I've got their brochure but it's not mentioned on here.

My in-laws are crafters who live in Fl. half the year. They have friends who come down and set up camp at FW for extended weekends just to go and do craft shows in and around the Orlando area. It's a great place to camp even if you're not hitting any parks!
