Hello!

We are new to the forums and just wondered if we could get any advice/tips/thoughts from any more experienced than us! We have been to Disney a few times now but have never stayed on the property and only for a day at a time. We have always gone in March/April/May but this year we are going to be staying at Fort Wilderness June 30-July 7. We are so excited! I know it is going to be a scorcher (that's pretty much a given for the time of year!) but our kids are older (9 and 7) so they can handle the heat pretty well. From reading the forums, Im seeing its best to go early at opening time, go back to the campground for the afternoon and hang out in the pool and then go back around 5-6pm.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Your going to be there at the exact same time as us. Its going to be hot, but its not unbearable. We usually go to the parks in the morning, head back to the campground during the afternoon heat, and then go back to the parks in the evening.:goodvibes

Since your kids are older in would take advantage of the extra ,magic evening hours. I find Fl heat does not cool down until at least 7-8 pm so if the parks are open till midnight I would do them

I will never go to Ft Wilderness over the 4th of July again. It was Horrible the last time(s) we went during that week. The pool was so packed you couldn't even see the water...There were drunk people everywhere, kids were unattended and running wild, and it was very loud late into the night. In short, it was a zoo. My best advise to you is, pick another week.

How are you camping? Trailer, rv or tent? Leave some time to relax and enjoy the Fort. Be prepared for hot muggy conditions and daily short intense rain showers.

Any day at the Fort is a good day.

Our long vacation always falls around the 4th of July week, so we have always been at the fort for the 4th. The crowds are bad, but again, they're almost always bad. My daughter went in December and everything was packed at that time also. We go with the attitude that its going to be hot and crowded but we're going to have a good time anyway. And, we always do! We didn't find that the pools were overly crowded for a hot summer day, but you couldn't find an empty chair or table to store your stuff. There were some rowdy teenagers at one of the 4th of July activities we went to (cookie decorating or something like that) but my granddaughter did not want me to make a scene. (The teacher in me was coming out) There were some rowdy people in golf carts one night, but I think they were disboarders so we just laughed and went on about our business. But, I have asked for a site away from the main road. The honking and merrymaking kept my dogs barking..which in turn, irritated us and probably our neighbors. But we still had a great time.:)

Thanks for all the advice. We will be camping in a 40' fifth wheel toy hauler....so we will have plenty of room and AIR which seems to be pretty important! We know it's going to be hot....but then again, it's hot and muggy most places we have been in the summer! Thanks for the comments about the extra magic hours...we've seen/heard that quite a few times and that was our plan...I think we will go early and then we can go back later in the evening when things start to cool down and take advantage of the extra magic hours!

As for the pool being crowded....Im expecting that too...again, I think you get that pretty much anywhere over a 4th of July weekend! We are in one of the pet loops which is not right in the middle of the park so that should help some also and we are bringing our own golf cart...that is something we are really looking forward to also, taking a nice stroll around the park and really getting to see everything!

We are really looking forward to our trip!

We'll be there the same time as you--June 27th-July 8th. It's our first trip to Disney and the Fort! We are down to 73 days. :cool1:

I would have liked to have gone right after the kids got out of school in late May, but my dd really wanted to go see the princesses for her birthday which is the 6th of July. We'll deal with the crowds and heat to make my little girl happy. We will be having breakfast with the princesses at Akershus in Epcot the morning of her birthday.:lovestruc

Make sure you bring her favorite princess dress and if you can fit it in, book her into the Bippidi Bop Boutique for princess hair and make up. It's so worth it!
