Camping along I-75

So, we leave for FW the end of June and are taking our brand new Fleetwood pop up tent trailer. We are driving from Ontario and was wondering if there were any good places to set up for the one night layover? Without the trailer we try to make it past Altanta, but I have a feeling with gas prices, and the extra weight, we may not make it that far. You can't set up a tent trailer in a rest stop, can you?? Are there any good places just to set up for the night in Tennessee or just inside Georgia?? Or are we better off just getting a hotel??

We're planning on stopping one or two nights (depending on how well the dogs are behaving on the trip!) on the way to the Fort too. I just picked up a book called "The Next Exit" that has campgrounds, gas stations, and restaurants listed for each exit. Maybe a book like that would be helpful since you're towing so far. You cannot set up a pop-up in rest stops or at Wal-Marts. Most states have restrictions regarding sleeping overnight at rest stops, anyway. If all you want to do is catch 40 winks, it would probably be easier to stay in a motel rather than set up and take down for one night.

We stayed at http://www.fairharborrvpark.com/ in Georgia last week on our way home from Gatlinburg,TN. It was right off the interstate easy in and easy out even had a few gas stations and the same exit to fill up if you need to. It was a pretty nice park for a one night stay over the people were friendly and most of the sites were pull through if you need that. I think it was only $25 with a good sams card.

With a popup and the possibility of it being pouring down rain for that quick overnighter, I would go with a hotel.

We've stayed at the Holiday TravLPark in Chattanooga (really in Rosswell, GA) for an overnight. We pulled in really late and left really early, so we didn't see much, but it seemed nice. Our criteria are probably different from yours, though, as we're looking for big rig friendly, and easy-in/easy-out for 65 feet of rig is our main focus. Getting further south, we like Twin Oaks RV Resort in Elko, Georgia (only 5 hours or so out of WDW). We've also stayed at the KOAs in Calhoun and Cartersville, GA - they weren't as nice as the other two and they were more expensive. If I was in a pop-up, I think I'd choose a hotel if I was just stopping for a few hours of sleep.

We are going in June 2009 and I am planning on staying at a KOA either north of Atlanta or South. Just depends on when we leave. Goto koa.com and you can search by state.

I had a pop-up for 5 years and did this on other trips to other locations. Like another poster stated, you just need to hope the weather cooperates with you when you are making the stop. With my hybrid I have now, weather isn't a factor as we can use the couch and dinette that convert to beds.

We have stayed at Fair harbor a few times now, its very convenient for us since we used to stop in Perry GA before we had the trailer. It would be a little far South for the OP since they are coming from North of where I live, generally it takes us 14 hrs to get to Perry and that assumes no major traffic problems.

There is a nice little KOA in Cleveland TN at mm25 that we have used lately. They are exactly the 1/2 way point between WDW and our house. The first time we used them we stopped late around 11 and they were closed and got back on the road before 7 so we just dropped the fee (IIRC around $28) in the night drop slot and headed down the road. Its close to the interstate without being noisy. We never noticed any noise from the other campers.
