Just wondering if there is such a thing?? kinda like tripadvisor does with hotels where you can read reviews / reports of past travelers. We are doing a major road trip this summer (13 states) and it would be great if I could read what others think of the campgrounds before making my ressie.

any help would be great....thanks :)

I could not post the links because I do not have 10 postings yet, you will have to cut and paste the websites. I prefer RV park reviews.

:cool1: you are awesome!!! thank you thank you :)))

I second the http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ . It's a great site and I use it all the time. Be sure to give your opinions after your travels as well. Just remember as you are reading that people have different ideas of what makes a great campground :)

i just thought of another question you guys might be able to help me with. since we are staying at lots of different campgrounds do you have a suggestion of a club to join to get discounted rates? is there one that is more widely accepted and others?

thanks again....we are new to this camping stuff and with a month long trip I need all the help I can get.. ;)

Thanks so much for posting this web site!

I have been looking for a campground semi close to Disney but on the ocean to stay at the day before out first night at Disney. I found one at St Augustine and I emailed them. Luckily I have not heard back from them because they have some bad comments!

Thanks again!:flower3:

Here is the club I belong to. State Parks don't offer discounts but private and koa types do.

We belong to Good Sams Club and KOA. So far only one of the campgrounds I have wanted to stay at was a Good Sams CG. When you join you also get the Highways magazine which has useful articles and places to visit. The KOA card has already paid for itself...it's $16 a year and you get 10% off each night you spend with them. We are new campers too so there are other benefits of these clubs that I haven't even used yet. And the last one we joined was AAA. We can get free triptiks which map out your route in detail for you. You can also get discounts on some campgrounds and resorts. I wish we had joined AAA BEFORE booking our FW trip !!

You have to remeber to take these ratings with a grain of salt. I have been to a few of the parks that did not get the best ratings but I was fine with them. It is all in what you are looking for.

I did not write this, I got this from another board a while ago, maybe it will help you interpret some of the ratings. If nothing else it is funny after you read a few reviews.

I have my own way of reading and deciphering campground reviews that I read online and I thought I’d pass along what I read into the reviews.

“THE KIDS LOVED THIS CAMPGROUND.”
My interpretation: The kids were allowed to run wild at this place and no supervision was required.

“THE SITES WERE TIGHT.”
My interpretation: This place is a voyeur’s dream, you can look through your window into the window of the camper next to you.

“THE BATHROOMS WERE OLD BUT CLEAN.”
My interpretation: The toilets may or may not be attached to the floor, the pipes are rusty and the water pressure is probably low. It really doesn’t matter to me, that’s why I have a fifth wheel with my own bathroom.

“LOTS OF TREES”
My interpretation: This is a good place to damage your trailer if you don’t pay real close attention your clearance both high and to the sides.

“THIS CAMPGROUND IS A 10 OUT OF 10 IN MY BOOK.”
My interpretation: This review was written by the campground owner or one of his friends.

“THE OWNERS/HOST WERE RUDE.”
My interpretation: The person writing the review made so many requests of the owners or violated so many of the rules that the owners wanted them to leave. When I arrive at a campground I pay my fee, and that is usually the last time I see the owners or host.

"CLOSE TO EVERYTHING"

My interpretation: Right on the main highway in the center of town.

"WITHIN SIGHT OF THE OCEAN/LAKE/RIVER"

My interpretation: No more than a three hour drive.

"GREAT FISHING"

My interpretation: Someone caught a carp here just a few years back.

"PEACEFUL"

My interpretation: No one comes here anymore.

I am not sure how far from Disney you would like to be but if you would like to stay on the Gulf and be right on the beach I may know of one. I went there prior to our last trip to Disney and I beleive it was about a 3 hour drive from the campground to Disney. It is in Fort Meyers Beach and you can be right on the Gulf if you can get reservations and it is really beautiful there. The name is Red Coconut, go to redcoconut.com for more info. The sites are small but they are big enough, I can send you pictures if you like.

:rotfl: :rotfl: thanks beagles7278 ....that was hilarious!!

I've learned from tripadvisor to take everything with a grain of salt. We stayed at one hotel that was rated #1 and I certainly didn't feel the same...but we might have picked somewhere worse had I chosen blind.

Anway....thanks again for the websites and have a funtastic weekend!

Unfortunately we are going to be on the other side of the state. I was thinking about the same amount of distance though, around St. Augustine.

I found a campground reccomended that was better than the other one I had in mind: Bry Mawr Ocean Resort. I sent them an email to see if they would let us just stay the one night.

I did not find these campground through Good Sams or AAA. I do like both of these memberships. We had to opportunity to become Life Members in the Good Sams Club because we have been members for 10 years, so we did! Talk about feeling old! :lmao:

Thanks again!:yay: Everyone here is a big help!

Pick up a copy of Trailer Life Campground Guide or Woodall's at Camping World or online. I have found the ratings in Trailer Life right on the mark. Both of these books are very thick with tons of listings. I got tried of lugging it around so I got the CDRom version for my laptop. :thumbsup2

Hi. Another great place to get information on campgrounds is:

well.. wont let me post the link .....

rv.net/forum

you can do a search on specific campgrounds to find previous threads on the campground or you can post a question regarding areas/campgrounds.
