I was reading about the nightly campfires and Disney movies at Fort Wilderness and thinking DD5 would really like this. Has anybody been to these when they are not staying at the campground? We are staying at Pop and I'm wondering if going to the campground in the evening would be more trouble than it's worth. We won't have a car and would have to get there and back via the buses.

Just wondered if anyone has done this and what you thought of it. Thanks!

We went when we were staying at Wilderness Lodge. We ate that night at the Trails End Buffet which was nice with the kids. THen we took an internal bus to the campfire. My understanding of FW is that you take a bus to get there (or boat from MK, Contemp or WL) and then a separate internal bus to get around. I think it might be fun if you need a low key evening, especially if you combine it with dinner. But we missed most of the campfire (caught the movie) b/c we had the wrong time, so I can't give too much feedback on the actual event.

We did the campfire on New Years Eve, you only need to be a Disney guest staying somewhere on Property to attend.

From Pop, I would go to Magic Kingdom and take the boat to FW, it is a really nice ride, you see the area from a whole new perspective. Note that while on the bus headed to MK, when you take the route that goes by the Contemporary hotel, the road dips down under what looks like an overpass. The "overpass" is where the lake crosses the road.

Get off at the FW dock, not the Wilderness lodge dock, just ask the CM's when you board for us it was the 2nd stop, but I have been told it changes all the time. You then proceed to the Orange bus line, about a 3 minute walk from the dock and take the Orange bus to the Meadows, there is a trading post there that can point the way or if the sun has started to set, you will probably see the fires.

The campfire area sells marshmellos w/sticks for about $2 and s'more kits for approx $5, the kits are large and plenty for a family, there were 4 of us and we didn't finish ours. There was also an assortment of food, nachos, hot dogs, sodas and ice cream.

The festivities begin with a group sing-a-long that was interactive and a lot of fun, meanwhile Chip and Dale arrive and work the crowd. The amphitheatre has lots of log benches and bleachers for the overflow. After about 45 minutes of singing a movie is started and played on the outdoor screen

This event was a lot of fun, it was a great and very inexpensive family activity. We originally had planned to have dinner at Trails End but didn't make it over in time, so we skipped dinner.

For the time of year we went, the fires were going at about 6:45, the sing along began at 7 and the movie started right about 8. I am assuming that during the summer months, they start things later. The movie schedule is released monthly at the beginning of the month and if you check the camping forum you can find out what will be playing during your stay. We had a double feature, Poohs very Merry New Year and Monsters Inc.

You can view the MK fireworks from the beach as well as if you time it right see the boat parade that goes thru the lagoon at night.

Have a great time, I highly recommend this event for a low key family night.

Can you reasonably walk from the boat dock to the Trail's End Buffet and from the Buffet to the campfire?

My dad talked about how he went as a kid, but we have yet to actually go out and experience it. Sounds like a lot of fun, and knowing that DS5 loves camping and making s'mores, this would be a great treat!
