We really love our travel trailer and love to go camping. After a couple of nights our backs feel terrible. We just can't stand the mattress! Has anyone used anything like a pillow top toppers to make there mattress more comfortable? Does it work? Should we invest in a better mattress?

Memory foam toppers are awesome to throw over the mattresses. And are usually under $100 for like a 2inch thick one.

for us, this only worked just ok. we had our TT for 4 years. So we got 4 years out of it.

our new MH we have a sleep number air mattress. :thumbsup2

zero problems so far. 60 for me :cloud9:

lots of luck

peace

I agree with the memory foam and we throw a mattress pad over that. Right now, you can get them pretty cheap in the back to school sections. If you have a Kohls near you, they have really good prices. If there isn't one near you, you can always order it online. They usually have free shipping for anything over $75.

Our mattress was horrible too...we went to Ikea and got another mattress to put on top of the existing one. They are inexpensive and sooo comfortable! We sleep better on our camper bed then we do at home! BTW where in South Jersey are you? I am 10 minutes outside of Philly!

We put 2-inch memory foam on top of ours, and it was perfect for dh and dd. It was better for me than before, but my back still hurt a bit, so I added another 2 inches on my side, and that did the trick. If we spent more time in the rv than we currently do, I'd replace the mattresses with something better; for the limited time we're on the road though, the memory foam is good enough.

If the bed in your home sucked,,you would replace the mattress, or do something about it.
OF COURSE you'd do something about the mattress in your TT !!

Everytime we have changed campers, we also change the mattress,,as a rule (not always) the mattress that comes with campers are not the highest quality or suited for one's back.

we bought a 4" foam pad from a mattress place. they cut the foam for restuffing chairs, etc. i don't remember how much it was but, it was reasonable. we choose the thickness/firmness and they cut the size we needed. but, definitely change it out. keep the old one to trade it in with.

Sounds like memory foam is the way to go! I will start looking around for the best price. Now maybe I can talk DH into another trip to the Fort!

PrincessToozie: I am in Vineland about 40 minutes from philly and about 40 minutes from the shore.

Disneylitch: Not only do I have a Kohl's near me, I work there too. That means discount! If I watch the sales I can get some really good deals.

Thank you everyone for the info.

Big Lots, if one is near you. We found 2.5" memory foam toppers for $39 dollars. We put triple toppers on, sounds like a lot, but they do sink over time just a little. A plus is now fitted queen sheets fit perfectly. Made a huge difference in comfort. Try one then add if needed. Also wholesale clubs sell queen memory foam matresses for decent price, and their return policy is no questions asked if you don't like it. Our freinds replaced theirs with one from BJ's, liked it alot and then trimmed it for their platform.
