Campaign Posters at the Western Wall.

He was asked not to visit the bases and hospital as part of his "campaign", which is paying for the European tour btw. He could have gone as a private citizen/senator without the press in tow. All Senators are welcomed on military installations. It seems like the part he didn't like was "without the press". Believe me, there is better security on bases than the venue he chose. The Pentagon felt that if the "campaign" made a stop at the bases and at the hospital it would be seen as a "political maneuver". The "campaign" should have canceled. The "senator" should have gone.

And suppose the "senator" did go. I find it hard to believe that anyone, including you, would have just accepted that at a senator visiting the troops. You would have immediately found something wrong with that visit and still accused him of campaigning.

You are a one trick pony and very transparent.

Same old, same old. I have been avoiding all posts by this OP for months now and after peeking in here I see that was a good idea. Since Obama's every thought, word and and sneeze is the worst the world has ever seen in the eyes of this OP, I think I will continue to ignore these posts.

The OP hates Obama, claiming that he has zero foreign policy experience as one of the major reasons why he should not be president. On the other hand, the OP loves both Reagan and Bush 43, two men who had zero foreign policy experience prior to assuming the office. Since in her mind having zero foreign policy experience is not a deal breaker for being a great president, why bring it up in the first place?

Moderators of the community board, I am a long time lurker who doesn't post much. I've seen many changes in the community board over the years, going way back a few years before I decided to register in order to actually post, and I think the CB is far poorer for your enabling Dawn to do what she currently does here. She's always been this way, but now it's reached new heights. Political opinion is one thing, but Dawn has been spamming the boards and trashing those she does not agree with while trying to bait them into a personal attack against her. I'm not talking about this thread so much as her whole body of work here on the DIS. It's incredibly obvious to anyone willing to be honest about it.

You have another FlowersChild situation on your hands, and I hope you deal with it accordingly.

Wow, just wow. "I don't like her political point of view so let me find an official to deny her the right to state it." Unbelievable. And scary, too, because you really sound like you believe your suggestion is reasonable. How about not clicking on threads she posts? What are you afraid of?

Well this "picky pony" wouldn't have given a rats patooty if he visited military bases as a private citizen or even in an official capacity as a US Senator. But given his track record of "shilling" himself at every opportunity, I doubt he could have restrained himself and stepped off the campaign trail for a moment or two.

Without listing a litany, I can answer that:

The Republican base doesn't like him.
The Democrats don't like him.

Anybody that can do that all at the same time has got my vote!

I think I love you. Just kidding but I agree with you 100%. McCain is much more moderate than Barack Obama claims to be. And right now with how divided this country is, that is what we need. A mender. Not someone who is going to promise hope but find it very difficult to get his agenda across the table after November. McCain has worked on both sides of the aisle, and per a report I heard closer to the beginning of the year even thought about switching parties. I like the fact that he seems (as much as I can register) to have an open mind that looks beyond party lines. I am not bothered by his age. I think we as Americans are entranced by youth. I was raised by my Grandparents and guess who I called when I needed advice on practically anything? The older generation of Americans are ones that have been through more than we have ever known and have made our lives better for it. So if you want to know why in November I will pull that handle (metaphorically speaking) for McCain it is because he has a history of experience vs. 143 days in the Senate, he is not as much of a gamble as Barack Obama, and to tell you the truth I like his policies and the way he takes the American opinion to heart.

I am sure this will be argued until the cows come home, but I have said my piece. Obama wants to waste his supporters money on trips around the world that's his business. I just don't trust him. I have looked at Obama's voting record and I am FAR from impressed. Look at it sometime, voting "present" to partial birth abortion bills is not really courageous, it's covering one's butt. I would have at least admired him for taking a stand. He seems unable to do that in his voting, not his speeches. His speeches are entirely a different matter altogether. He can take a stand there, but when push comes to shove he can't put his Senate voting record on the line. That would be too permanent. Sorry, he just seems too much like a Snake Oil Salesman for me. I would love to see an African American President in Office, I just don't think Obama is that man.

It's one thing to promise Change and Hope, it's an entirely different matter altogether to deliver it. And I am quite bemused to see so many Americans listening to what he going to do, without ever taking a look at what he has done. Without reading the books he has written. Examining the financials he has made available. When push comes to shove you all are just voting for another politician, I at least want to vote for one that will get some things done while he has the job.

I know exactly how you feel.

Obama is charasmatic. He talks the talk but can he walk the walk. I don't agree with some of his policies. I am tired of being taxed to death, but honestly, what is the solution to get this country out of the mountain of debt that has been created? I'm concerned with his lack of experience but maybe that is a good thing? I just don't know. He is idealistic. That isn't a bad thing but is it realistic?

McCain - I'm just not a big fan of. I'm sorry in advance to the Bush supporters (we'll agree to disagree) but IMO he has run this country into the ground. I know some of our problems are just cyclical, but there have been SO many BAD decisions. There is such a disconnect between Bush and the people. Will McCain be more of the same? And if McCain has alienated both parties in some respects, how will he be able to accomplish anything?

So we are faced with the lesser of two evils - who to choose? Do you waste a vote and hope for the best? To not vote at all - I just can't do it. This country is in trouble. We are in need of good leadership. And still, we continue to get words without action, soundbites without answers and political smearing. When will it end? :headache:

Precisely my own feelings.

My thoughts, exactly.

my, my, guess who went to Israel in march?

Mr McCain's tour of the Middle East and Europe includes meetings with UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

He will also visit France for talks with President Nicolas Sarkozy before heading back to the US.

Correspondents say Mr McCain's trip is good for his electoral prospects, because it will enable him to appear statesmanlike and presidential, while his potential Democratic opponents are still fighting for their party's nomination.

The Arizona senator was in Israel on a fact-finding mission which has also taken him to Iraq and Jordan and has been widely seen as a bid to polish his credentials as a statesman.

Mr. McCain’s visit to Sderot — a town near Gaza that has been hit by more than 2,000 rockets in the past four years and where siren warnings are common and concrete rocket shelters are proliferating — came in the middle of what was officially a Senate fact-finding trip.

The trip also offered Mr. McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, an opportunity to signal his support of Israel to Jewish and evangelical Christian voters back home.

His foreign trip was having reverberations back in the United States, where Senator Barack Obama seized on misstatements Mr. McCain made Tuesday in Amman, Jordan, when he said several times that Iran was training terrorists for Al Qaeda in Iraq. (Mr. McCain then corrected himself to say that Iran was training extremists, not Qaeda members.)

What's good for the goose...

too bad McCain's trip didn't garner as much attention as Obama's did!
