Camp Sites

I am planning on going to Disney in Dec. with my DS-11 and if anyone has done this at this time of year. What was the weather like and a little more info then whats shown on the Disney web site. What each camp site offers and transportation, power for a radio etc. Is it worth it. We like to camp using a Tent not a camper, but this would be our 1st major trip. All info will be very helpful.

I haven't done it but I can tell you that December weather is completely unpredictable. You could have warm days with cool mornings, or you could have mornings near freezing with afternoons in the 50s.

Ok I'll have my Sons Mountaineer with us for that, but when backing up to the camp site, and setting up your tent, how big is it spot and how close is the next camp site. I snore pretty good....LOL, it may keep away or bring the animals to/from us..... Is it like a true camp site, how are the showers, bathrooms etc. I have been to some places and good thing I was only there for the weekend. Is there a store to get things etc. and would I really need to bring everything that I would on a normal camping trip.....

We tent camped last Dec. for the first time. We were in the 2000 loop. Our site was #2019, and we have a large tent-(8-10 person). When we set it up on the pad, it seemed to fit just about right with a little space to spare. We personally thought the sites were rather close to one another-also we were right next to a sidewalk, so maybe our site was a bit smaller than normal? But we felt our neighbors were very close. That is the reason that we requested a preferred site for this coming Jan. Also because of the distance the tent loops are from everything. We walked to the Meadows Trading Post one night and got lost a couple of times--the preferred sites are closer to the store and other buildings. We had no problems with the bathrooms--very clean and heated! The Trading Posts do have things like milk, eggs, bacon, etc. Just be sure your tent is ready for rain! We got rained out on our last day there--pools of water in our tent(a brand new Coleman---GUARANTEED to keep us dry ) We ended up spending our last night in a cabin(a little unexpected end of trip cost ). We have a brand new tent waiting for Jan.-seam sealed and all--also some tarps to go with it-hoping we can keep dry this time!! We didn't bring all of our normal camping stuff with, like cooking--we didn't do-just had cereal and granola bars for breakfast, ate lunch in the parks, and usually were too full for supper--if not we did bring pizza back to the tent a couple of nights from Trails End.
We had a great time though--FW is a beautiful campground and you will LOVE it!!

I've camped at FW twice--in April and May, and been to WDW in December/Jan many times. It can get chilly. For a tent camper in December I'd recommend you get a coleman propane tent heater, or bring--less safe--an electric heater. All the campsites have electricity and water. Note: the sites have a charcoal-style grill, no fire rings, and you aren't allowed to have fire outside of the charcoal-style grill.

Two issues with FW campsites: the tent pads are sand, so if your tent or fly needs stakes for stability, bring plenty of rope to tie the stake loops or guy points or poles out to the brush that surrounds each site. Second, the sand pads outside of the tent-only areas can be small--big enough for any tent, but often not big enough for a tent and dining fly--which yuo can set up on the asphalt.

Almost all of your fellow campers will be in RVs. I don't care, but my family felt a little out of place!

When you made your reservation did you ask for a partial hook-up site or a full hook-up site or a preferred site?

Partial----water and electric

Full----water, electric and sewer

Preferred---water, electric, sewer and cable
