For those of you who have used camping cots I have a question.

We live in Michigan and we just got back from a 1 week camping trip up north with our new equipment that we plan to use for our August camping trip at the fort. We have the Disco Bed Camp cot bunk beds. They have your typical canvas type bed material. In the great up north of Michigan we have no problem sleeping in a full on sleeping bag at night in the middle of summer. I'm quite sure this is not the case for a steamy Florida August night. I'm not thinking we are going to lug all our bulky sleeping bags down with us when we will probably need not much more than a sheet even with an AC unit in our tent at night. My question is.... do you have any suggestions for a mat or sheet/cover type solution for the cot? I just can't imagine that sleeping on that canvas is the most cozy feeling in the world, lol.

Thanks for any suggestion!! :goodvibes

Mush,

If you have the AC in the tent then the answer is more about what is comfortable. We have some thin, light fleece blankets (not like sheets) which is all we use on our cots in mild weather. I agree you don't need a sleeping bag but I think you would want something to avoid a chill or a draft.

So I'd recommend a very light blanket.

Hello fellow Michigander!

I have a bad back and also don't like sleeping on the canvas on my cot, so I made DH and I mattresses out of the eggshell foam mattress toppers and I encased them in old sheets. They are very comfy after a long day! We covered up with light blankets. My kids however, don't have the mattresses. They sleep on the canvas cots. I place a sheet down over the cot to separate them from the canvas and then they cover up with light blankets.

We used these when we camped last August at the Fort and it worked out well. The A/C unit was a Godsend!

Thanks guys :goodvibes

I'm thinking 1 sheet and 1 fleece per person is what I'll pack. Each person can use them as they see fit for comfort. That won't be much larger than my husbands sleeping bag, lol. Should save us some room. :thumbsup2
