So I got a new camera last Christmas- Canon Rebel. I love it, but it's bulky. My old camera wouldn't hold a charge, so it's just sitting there, but it's still kind of big as well.


Anyone have experience with a larger camera at Disney? It is worth the hassle?

It takes some getting used to, and I think a commitment to taking pictures. However, the pictures are so great that the size becomes a nonissue.

I don't bother with a camera bag unless I have specific ideas for the day (family shot in front of castle at night...need tripod). Dark rides/ different lens.

I just loop around neck through my arm to carry. I use a small Vera Bradley backpack when not using for extended time. (sorry I didn't notice if you were make/ female before replying). I used this bag before my dslr, and it provides a little extra padding than a regular backpack.

I took my DSLR the first time and it was a huge pain to lug around. I have a Canon Rebel as well. Sometimes it can get pretty irritating lugging that thing around all day, but I agree that the awesome quality of pictures makes it worth it. Also something to think about - bring a smaller, less "professional" camera as well, and then decide when you get there which to bring. I usually take my Canon with me the first half of the day, go back to the room to relax for a bit and then trade off (or vice-versa). If there is something I know I have to get a good picture of, I take the nice camera. It works for me every time!

We are going in November and I am really wanting to take my DSLR. There is a bag on Amazon, that is soft and only covers the camera, so you can put it in your regular bag.

Very worth it. I have a camera case backpack that is broken up into three zipper compartments. I keep my my phone/wallet/makeup/hair ties in the top, my camera in the middle (there is another little compartment you can see on top of the middle compartment, I usually put my room key/tickets and extra memory cards in there), and an empty water bottle in the bottom. Whenever I refill my water bottle I drink it all before putting it back because I don't want to risk water getting on my camera.

It's one shouldered so I can easily slide it from my back to my front and grab the camera.

It's made by pentax. Just google 'pentax backpack camera bag' and it'll pop up.

Yes, I was faced with the same issue for our recent July trip; since I knew it would be hot and crowded, I opted for my little point and shoot camera that can fit in my pocket. The problem is a lot of the pictures didn't turn out great, yet I was so happy not to lug around my huge camera. For my next trip (hopefully in cooler weather) I will definitely bring my DSLR.

I like the idea of bringing both types, so you can switch off or take your quality camera for certain photo ops (like the castle at night!).

I'm faced with a similar dilemma. I love the pictures my DSLR takes but our last trip it was such a pain to lug around everything we needed for four kids plus this big giant camera so most days I just left it in the room. When I got home I was really mad at myself because I barely had any pictures. This trip I think I am going to bring my DSLR and my small point and shoot. If I have something special (daughter going to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique) I will bring DSLR if it's just a day at the park I'm going for convenience and bringing my point and shoot. I'd rather have a little less quality pictures than none at all.

If you going to the parks on multiple days have you thought about taking the bulky camera one day, no camera (or just compact camera) the second. Using the bulky camera for your best composed shots and the compact on standby for the surprise/candid shots. No mater how good you or your camera is, those blink and miss moments could be gone by the time you switch on, compose etc.

My next visit to The World is with DM and DSis, both have their own compacts and although I will be getting the bulk of my photos from my own, If there are days where I hit the rides long and hard, don't expect the others to carry my camera bag all day while I have fun and any on the spot moments will be recorded with their cameras.

Last holiday at USF, just used the phone camera (8mp Sony handset) for entire holiday and although I can tell the difference, they were more than good enough for my needs.

I am facing the same dilemma right now. I also have a Canon Rebel and took it with us last year on our trip. I got amazing pictures and thought it was worth it. But this year we have a baby to carry around, in addition to all the stuff you need with a baby and the stuff we need for our 5 year old. So I'm thinking about buying a point and shoot and then switching on and off and not bringing my DSLR every day. A lot of people have recommended the Lumix to me... but there's so many choices I have no idea what to get.

First camera I ever took to Disney was a small sony camera. I loved how small it was... until hubs put it in his back pocket and sat on a ride breaking the LCD screen

So I bought a big bulky camera that takes beautiful pics and that he couldn't fit into his pocket. He usually carries it around cause he's the best (and because he's the more responsible one out of the two of us - I would have left it somewhere and lost it before i broke it!)

This year I am having to take 2 cameras the big bulky for Disney because I love the picture quality and a smaller camera for underwater pics when we go to Bahamas before Disney.... almost there CANNOT WAIT!

Gotta admit, as many times as I've been to Disney, I bring my DSLR every time. I have a Nikon D7000 and the picture quality makes it worth it. I usually pick a lens depending on where or when we"re going. If I'm hitting, say, Epcot at night, I'll want a fast lens, but for a day at the MK, I'll just grab my 18-200 and it pretty much handles all situations. I'd rather have the camera and not need it than end up kicking myself for not remembering it.

My wife, on the other hand, is perfectly happy taking pics with her iPhone...

I have an SLR as well and I do take it to Disney. I have a small camera crossbody bag that I keep it in. I do HIGHLY suggest to bring some sort of bag to put it in during any ride you go on (unless your like me and even take pictures riding Thunder Mountaid )
It might be a pain to bring it but the pictures you take will be well worth it

We bought a Sony point/shoot that was basically a $400 paperweight. Sent it off for repairs twice, and the last time just said fuggedaboutit. Bought a grownup camera A Nikon D3100. Yes, it's a beast, but it's worth it to KNOW you're going to get good pix.

My DH has a cross-body bag (made by Lowepro???), so he carries it most of the time. I have a Camelbak, so the camera is his baby.

We go to WDW every year, and every year we come back with around 1,000 pix to cull. Yeah, we could take a lot less, but at this point it's not about taking pix of resorts, rides, etc. It's about getting awesome shots of how our kids are growing, shots that are meaningful to US, shots in places that are special to our fam.

Maybe one day we'll get another p/s to take instead of the D3100, but it fo shizzle WON'T be a Sony.

I'm having this debate with myself right now. Well, not exactly, as I will absolutely take my DSLR with me (I'd regret not and am used to carrying it places; it's size doesn't bother me). But I'm so torn about camera bags (it's the one choice I just can't seem to stop worrying about). I have several bags and am trying to decide between a largish boxy one (that I have used at Disney before, but it's old and not as padded as it once was) and my large, multi-compartment backpack one.

I usually use my camera bag as an all purpose bag and not only put my camera in it, but also keep my extra sd cards, wallet (and tickets,etc), phone, sun glass case and a tiny bottle of saline solution, etc.

Both the bags will work for this, but neither is super comfortable and, more importantly, I worry about them fitting well with me on the rides.

I'm half tempted to try and buy a holster camera bag and take a regular backpack for the rest of my items (and pop my camera into it too, when necessary), but I don't know if I'm want to worry about 2 bags instead of just one.

I always take my camera, I have a Sony NEX3 so its small for an interchangeable lens camera, but bigger then a point and shoot. For me its all about the bag I put it in, I carry a bag in the parks even if I don't have my camera, water bottle, sun screen, extra glasses, ect I found these great if a little spendy camera bags.

It is comfortable over the shoulder, keeps the camera and everything else organized and easy to get to and is super cute to boot! Love it, would be lost without it!

I've always taken my Canon DigiRebel. I considered not bringing it this December when hubby and I are spending 9 nights and I even purchased a high-end point and shoot for this purpose.....but I don't know who I'm kidding. There is no way I could part with my Rebel. The quality of pictures it takes makes the hassle worth it. I'm even planning on getting the PhotoPass Plus and I'm going to still bring my Rebel. I'm shopping around for a cute, smallish bag and I'm just sick I missed out on a Vera camera bag (it appears to be sold out on her site). I do like the idea of bringing it on select park days.....and maybe even bringing my 300 zoom lens for our AK day I'm sure hubby would carry it for me....but not if I find that Vera bag
