After reading how quick Nikon got on top of Funball's camera problem, I looked them up. I'm leaning towards the Nikon CoolPix P100. Anyone have it and have thoughts? We're on the Wonder next month and I need a good camera. Ours is about 5 years old and I think about done. .......OR have a suggestion on a good one less than $300?

Stephanie,

You may get an answer here, but more likely on the regular board. But even more likely on the photography board.

Put the name Nikon Coolpix P100 in the title and hopefully you will find somone that has one and can give you a good review.

also i want to remind you that my p&s is 12 mp, and it does come in colors...and even so the L22 is a higher mp then the p100.. witch is funny

Forgot to mention, Canon makes some excellent P&S cameras in their Powershot line. I used a Canon Powershot before I upgraded to my Nikon DSLR. And I still love the Canon for when I want something more compact.

Great link, FlameGirl! I'd say that 99% of the buying public don't understand this, and think that more megapixels == higher quality. Ain't so!

I think the camera manufacturers have done a great disservice to the buying public in promulgating the megapixel wars. I, like most of us, have owned quite a few P&S cameras over the years. I'm convinced that my older 3-4 Mpixel cameras yielded better image quality than the newer 10-12 Mpixel ones. Why? Because they're trying to cram too many megapixels into too small a sensor! The result is noisy images, overfiltering to compensate, and bad compression. I really wish that you could buy a modern P&S camera (that is, new technology sensor and image processor) at a 3 or 4 Mpixel resolution. I think the results would be superior.
