What is everyone bringing to Alaska ?
I have a Nikon D3200 and plan to buy a new lens. Any suggestions ?
The only lens I have is the 18-55. Mainly I want to take wildlife and landscape.

Hi Scrapy,

To answer your question from my trip report: I pretty much exclusively used a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-300 mm 1:3.5-5.6G ED lens for DX cameras, such as the D3200. It should work on your camera. I wanted a lens that I could take both wide angle landscape and be able to zoom for wildlife. I loved using it on the cruise.

I also purchased it on sale and saved quite a bit. If you can't swing it, look into the 55-300 mm zoom Nikon lens. I have that one too and love it.

Thanks so much ! That's exactly what I've been looking at:thumbsup2
Loved seeing your pictures ! Awesome ! :cheer2:

To save weight.... 18-200mm or 18-300mm is my preferred lens.

For professionals.... there are more potent Nikon options for the ultimate quality. But those lenses will be bulky and I rather have my luggage space for other items.

You might want to bring a circular polarizers to minimize glare.

Warning those longer telephoto lenses will cause shadows from the longer lens. Having an external flash helps.

You might think about renting a lens from someplace like borrowlenses . com. I have rented many lenses from them just for vacation that I could not afford to buy. You will need wide and telephoto in Alaska but the 18-300 would fit the bill.
