Has anyone ever given their little one a disposable camera or a $50 whatever camera from Toys r Us? My daughter loves to take pictures and I think this would be a nice touch.

We bought a kids V-Tech camera from Costco about a year ago for $30. The pictures aren't very good quality but it's rugged and comes with a couple of photo games.

We used to have the Vtech kiddie zoom and it was ok for a smaller child. We bought our son (7 at the time) a 10 MP kodak easy share for $10 at unclaimed baggage last year....for $10 if he dropped/broke/lost it, it wasn't a huge loss. It took Ok pictures when we went to Hawaii last summer. He took good care of it, and I just recently purchased a Canon Powershot that is a 14 MP (small upgrade) to surprise him with when we go on our Alaskan cruise next month. I paid about $24 after shipping for this one. He also purchased the Vtech action cam (go pro type camera) with his birthday money, but we haven't really used it yet.

We bought our 5 year old a Fujifilm XP 80 to use on our cruise. We looked at all the "cheapie kid" ones on the market and they all had horrible reviews and took horrible pictures. The XP 80 is drop proof AND it is also waterproof so we, as a family, used it on excursions and swimming in the pool. It works great and even has a flash for normal pictures. The underwater camera was great too.

Stay away from the kids versions, the pictures aren't worth it. We got DD a Nikon Cool Picts when she was 3.5 years and just bought the warranty that replaces it no matter what happens. Much better pictures and 5 years later she still has and uses it. It's awesome to see what she thinks is important enough to take pictures of.

As another option you can buy a couple of disposable ones but younger kids tend to blow through them pretty quickly.

The last time I had a disposable camera to develop it turned out to be a huge pain. Since everything is digital now, finding a place to develop film is a challenge. I couldn't find anywhere to do it same day---and my kids really wanted their pictures. Ended up using Walgreens but they had to send it out and it took 2 weeks to get it back!
I agree with the previous comments. I bought my kids each a small entry level Canon point and shoot and they have used them for years now. The Vtech kid one we started with was awful--about a 1 inch screen to view from and all the pictures were blurry. Much better investment to get an actual camera. I always made sure they wrapped the strap around their wrists when using and got them cases for when they weren't in use and we didn't have any trouble with dropping and breaking. Get big memory cards though---kids like to take a LOT of pictures:)
