I know this is probably a dumb question, but is there any danger to my digital camera/memory card/battery (lithium ion) when I go through any scanning or anything? I have a new digital camera and have never flown with one or anything before. I plan to have the camera in my carry on. TIA!

We pack our camera (Sony Cybershot), batteries, and memory stick in our carry-on and have never had any problems....At least 7 trips. I would recommend, if you haven't done so already, to get a back up set of rechargeable batteries and pack your charger in your checked luggage. You'll be surprised how quick they go when "you're having fun"!

I have a Cybershot, too. It's been through more scanners (along with my laptop) than I care to count (I travel a lot for business). Never had any problems with it.

I second packing a 2nd battery and a charger.

The x-ray scanners used on carry-on bags pose no danger whatsoever to digital cameras, memory cards, batteries, CDs, laptop computers, cell phones, PDAs, or any other electronic device.

Keeping any valuable or fragile device like a camera in your carry-on is always a good idea, however. I always sit in a window seat when I fly, and I usually get to see the luggage handlers loading up the plane before we taxi. Some of those guys ought to be quarterbacks for the NFL; considering the air time they get with 40-pound suitcases, they could probably throw a football into the next county!

The only danger from the x-rays is to photographic film, which can be ruined by exposure to x-rays.
