camera suggestions

My family is wanting a Christmas list from me soon & I really want to ask for a good camera; one of those big ones with fantastic zoom, a preview screen (that you can see well), that takes swell images, and is around $300 dollars. I'd perfer one with out a memory card. I've been looking up cameras on Target.com but reading threw the descriptions I get confused.
Any suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated sincerely!!!

A couple of suggestions....Canon SX10 or Panasonic TZ5. There are many other cameras that fit your brief description though. Instead of browsing on Target.com, try Amazon.com instead. They carry more cameras than Target, and the prices are generally better.

But what do you mean "I prefer one without a memory card"? Digital cameras MUST have a memory card...it's the way the pictures are saved.

Well my mom used to have a camera with a memory card in it; once it was filled up you'd have to buy another one so I'm not wanting to have to mess with all that. I guess memory cards must be easier to use now a days.

I hav'nt been on Amazon.com in years but WOW amazon is a pretty neat site; their product descriptions are detailed and I really like the customer reviews. Thanks again for suggesting to look up cameras on there, it's a hundred times better than Target.com!

Canon SX10 seems pretty good over all expecially the zooming abilty; I'm not keen on the look of the 2.5-inch Vari-angle LCD for flexible viewing. As long as the camera works well I don't care what it looks like. The Panasonic TZ5 seems nice; it's a bit more compact than I'm look for.

One question I couldn't figure out: can you plug the Canon SX10 into your computer and look at the photographs right after you take them?

Memory cards are reusable. Once one is filled up, just connect the camera to the computer and load all the pictures onto your computer. The camera will come with software which makes it very easy to do or you can use Picasa or another free program. Then you can erase all the pics from the memory card and reuse it. Memory cards are pretty cheap now, so you can pick up several of them.

I have a new DSLR, but I had a Sony before this that I liked real well. The new model is the DSC-H50 and I've read good things about it.

What part of Kentucky are you from?

If not a good card reader would be an excellent stocking stuffer suggestion for your family. They are fairly inexpensive and makes uploading the pictures to your computer much easier and faster allowing you to reformat and reuse your memory card. Memory cards have really come down in price and would also be another stocking stuffer idea

I havn't herad of 'card readers' before, but they sound like a cameras best friend! I'll have to ask for one for a stocking stuffer; thanks spinetnglr.
