Camera strap

Here is my collection of Disney camera straps:

The newest one (the red one with shoes and gloves) is actually the second most comfortable of the bunch. The most comfortable is the EPCOT Center (coincidentally, that one reeks of the most awesomeness). It's all relative, however, as all of them are quite uncomfortable. I never use them at home; here, I use a Mennon hand strap. At WDW, I alternate a different WDW strap each day. I suck it up and shoot through the pain because I think the straps are so cool and give my camera an extra dose of "Disney Spirit." I can completely understand why you wouldn't want to use them, though.

My fiancee uses a $5 neoprene Op/Tech she got from Amazon and loves it.

Nice collection!!! For anyone bored of there Disney strap I will send you my shipping address!!! :D

I would just buy an op=tech strap and put some mickey pins on it.

The WDW straps are very uncomfortable, and in the heat I would guess they would make some nasty irritation on your neck.

I ordered a strap cover from someone on Etsy. It has a decorative fabric on the outside and is lined with minky, which is a super-soft fleece. I really like it. I wonder if one of the Etsy folks who make them would use Disney fabric? Or you could put Disney pins on it.

If you don't mind covering the underside glue or sew a strip of neoprene there. Or better yet, glue it to an Op-Tech strap.

Personally I love my Crumpler Industry Disgrace. It's by far the best strap I've owned, and I've got quite a few. It was worth every penny.

Marlton Mom's "El Cheapo" solution is to try wrapping it in a bandana.

If you are handy you could go to the fabric store and by some fleece (or other fabric) and try making a sleeve that you could line with a neoprene type padding. You could easily hand sew in some snaps or velcro squares for easy on and off and you could customize it with the thickness and type of padding that works best for you. We are talking an 8 inch or so rectangle so It wouldn't take forever to hand sew.

The only thing I don't know is where to find the neoprene.

Good luck.
Marlton Mom
(Who is a necessity sewer, i.e. I only sew out of necessity!))

Thanks all! Looks like I will be looking for a new strap. I am pretty handy with a sewing machine so I might try to find some way to customize it if I can find some cool Mickey fabric. Thanks for the suggestions on the new straps I'll have to look them up.

WDWFigment - I love all of your straps. It must be easier to change out the strap on your camera than it is on mine. I can't imagine changing everyday...mine takes forever to change out!

I really like the feel of my SmugMug strap and honestly, :rolleyes1 it had no influence on why I chose SmugMug over Flickr when I moved my pictures from Photobucket recently. I got my free SmugMug strap last spring.

OpTech, Black Rapid, Crumpler...all fine straps. Also throw into your search the Kata Reflex R. Any of these should be what you are looking for to add comfort to your camera - with a few different types of solutions on mounting and material. I went with the Kata strap, but any of these would likely be much more comfortable than the Mickey straps!

huh, i'm obviously a beginner because i just have the one that came with the camera. lol!

i love the mickey ones! and i figure that since the freebie was fine with me that the mickey one won't be too bad.

off to ebay to search for mickey straps :)

does anyone know where online i can find some disney-themed camera straps? i have the one that came with the camera but i'd really like something with disney on it!

also, do they sell the straps at WDW? where? any idea of the cost? i wonder if i should just wait til we go in september to buy a strap if it's cheaper.

i thought i saw a thread around here about this subject but i can't find it anywhere :confused3

I love the look of the Disney straps they sell at the park. However, they are thin and would not be comfortable if you have a significant sized lens or camera.

I much prefer the padded straps you can buy at your local camera store.

I will say that the WDW stores have really cute lens cleaners that have a disney themed case that they fold into.

Which do you prefer? Does the camera weight make a difference?

Penny

I have a black Rapid as well, I also have a wrist strap on my camera, which I use a lot as well.

I'm a fan of optech straps, I like the fact that they have a modular system so you can adapt it to fit your needs and equipment,

since I almost always carry 2 cameras I recently picked up their dual harness, I love it, I'm not comfortable hanging my cameras upside down by the tripod mount, especially with a flash on the camera.

the rapid strap and camera slinger both mount that way, and for their dual setups, cost 130 dollars..

the optech harness cost me 30 dollars and attaches to the cameras normal strap mounts keeping the cameras in the upright position, it is easy to convert to single camera use, either with the harness, or by detaching from harness and snapping onto a regular optech strap

Neck strap for me. Wrist straps don't work because I shoot a lot with large lenses, shoulder harness style straps don't work for me because I have narrow shoulders, I like to use the built-in camera straps for a normal orientation of the camera rather than hanging upside down by the tripod screw, and no strap isn't an option because I like the extra security! I went with the Kata Reflex-E strap, as it is comfortable elastic, wide, and mega-adjustable from chest height to below the hips, has quick remove tabs for swapping off the strap or switching to backpack loops, and has little storage pockets built in for extra memory cards or batteries. And it's strong enough to handle my 6lb rig when I've got the Tamron 200-500 mounted to the camera.

Handstrap is my favorite. A good neckstrap is my next favorite. I hate wrist straps. They're better than nothing with a small camera.

Neck strap, but it's got to be the right neck strap. I like the Crumpler Industry Disgrace. It distributes weight well and I don't have a problem with it irritating my skin when I get hot and sweaty like with many straps.

I do think camera weight makes a difference in what you use. I have an Op Tech strap on my old camera, and I liked it on there. I switched it to my new camera, which is a bit heavier, and it just didn't work for me there.
