Camera strap

I had a similar problem with the narrow version on my P&S. Try running some sand paper up and down the edges. To me it appeared as is they had used a laser or a heating element to cut the material and just left the rough edge as it was.

After I cleaned that edge it was perfectly comfortable.

I was going to say - I tried these straps on last time I was at WDW and as much as I wanted one, I had to pass. It felt like I was wearing a bent 2X4 around my neck. Completely uncomfortable hard plastic. :guilty:

Can I ask what camera do you have this strap attached to, I've seen this at Disney and thought about picking it up but was afraid that it would be strong enough for my Canon 50D.

It's definitely strong enough for the 50D, but like the other posters I've found it's quite uncomfortable. It's a nice collectible to have, but I wouldn't recommend it for a long day of shooting!

I have to tell you guys, that I bought one of the mickey straps, and it absolutely rubbed my neck raw in just a few days. I actually took it off my camera and went back to my old one. I know us "artists" should suffer for our art, but c'mon.
I havent used it sense then.

Does anyone know if you can wash it with some fabric softener or something?

Matt

Same thing happened to me. It was very uncomfortable for frequent use. It is in the back of my closet and most likely will never be used again. I would sell it on eBay, but I modified the strap to remove the adjustment to give me a little longer strap.

I just ordered a Tamrac Adventure 9 from Amazon to upgrade from my old Adventure 6 which is much smaller. However, none of that line from them have tripod hooks/straps/mounts. I'm considering trying to create a mount/attachment on the new bag by gluing/sewing extra straps to the sides at the top and bottom so I can strap the tripod onto the side of the bag for walking around between uses. (Thinking specifically of WDW trips and an upcoming trip to Savannah where there will be lots of day and night walking and photographing.)

Ever attempt anything like it?

Have a good sized bag that has a built in tripod mount? (I can always return the Tamrac to Amazon, but I like everything else about it but the lack of tripod holder).

I have the Adventure 7, and according to Tamrac's website, you can use their SAS (Strap Accessory System) to attach a compact tripod to the tabs on the bottom of the bag. This also applies to the Adventure 6. The description for the Adventure 9 states a tripod (does not include the word "compact").

Good luck.

I've got an Adventure 6. What I do is put the bottom of a leg of the tripod into the water bottle pocket, and the top of the tripod I secure to the loop on the top of the backpack using a dog collar (with a built-in quick release, got it at the dollar store!). My tripod is a Velbon Maxi though, which folds down to about 15 inches, so I'm not sure if my system would work with a longer folded tripod.

I just bought a Tenba Shootout for that reason,it has a nice tripod carry system,I just used it two weeks ago on a trip and it worked well for me.Hope this helps

Their website sure isn't very clear on how it would work to attach the SAS cinch straps to hold the tripod. I have a Quantaray QSX 6601 TM that is about 23 inches long when fully folded. I normally have a water bottle in the mesh pocket or I'd try that. Usually I just loop the right should strap inside one of the tripod legs and kind of keep it from falling out of that position with my right elbow. It stays pretty well most of the time, but I want something that requires less thought and effort to keep it stable. I might try the strap system, but I worry it will stick out too far on the sides if mounted to the bottom with their strap system vs. if I can mount it upright on the side where I'm less likely to smack a tourist in the hip. :)

I did find a video on Youtube where a guy attached a mountainclimbing chalk bag (like a big water bottle carrier) that holds the tripod feet and then just strap the top of the tripod to the top of your bag with a strap. Seemed a pretty cool way to do it.

I added 2 straps to a camera bag. I went to the craft store and picked up some 1" nylon strap and some buckles. I cut some holes in the side of the bag and looped the strap through. JoAnn Fabrics usually has 40% off any one item coupons in the sunday ads. If you are lucky you can find one in the store. This can make the add on really cheap. I spent less than $5 on the 2 buckles and the nylon strap. I even bought extra strap.

That's great, Scott. Exactly what I was picturing but not sure how to accomplish / where to get the parts. I might also try a bag on the bottom just to protect the leg bottoms (which have points on them and can be pokey if they hit you wrong). Thanks for the pictures, too, they really help.

don't your tripod bottoms have knobs that can be turned down to cover the points..

Yes, but I'm anal/OCD about them and like them all nice and tight and not loose and wobbly when not in use, lol. :lmao:

Shortly after I got my new DSLR in January I had a friend going to the world so I got her to pick me up the Mickey camera strap for it. I was very excited about it but when I put it on my camera it is very wide and stiff. We are going to the World in a little over a month and I can't imagine wearing it around my neck for 8 days. Any suggestions on ways to make it more comfortable? Or should I put the Nikon one back on for the trip?

I don't know what it is made of but if it doesnt appear to have any plastice on it I would try putting it in the dryer... may loosen the fabric up a bit... if its leather you could always do things ball players do, eg shaving cream or the oven...

I've got a few Mickey straps, but keep them more as collectibles than as functional camera straps because they are uncomfortable. I personally just use a $4 cheapie neoprene strap I picked up from Dealextreme, but I've heard lots of good things about the Crumpler Industry Disgrace strap, the Rapid R-Straps, and the Op/Tech straps also. A comfortable strap is one of the most important camera accessories you can own, I'd take a trip down to your local store and see what feels best to you!

The only way to make that strap comforable is to stop using it. I tried it for over a month and it it did not wear in. I even threw it in the wash hoping to soften it up a little. It now sits in the bottom of an old camera bag. I did use it as a strap on my tripod for a while.

Disney did not make them for comfort. They just made them so people would hand them $12 and realize when they get home it is too late to return it.

There is an older version with mickey on a film negative that might feel better.

I would recommend that you buy a black rapid strap. My camera was never comfortable around my neck and I had purchased different straps to aid in that comfort. Hands down, this is the best purchase I ever made for my dslr. My camera is now comfortable and secure as long as I want to wear it.
