Camera strap

Great find and in it's original packaging.
I have the same strap. It was on our video camera. I removed it to put it on my Pentax but need to get some straps as the hooks are too big for the holes. I never think of it when I goto the camera shop. lol

The strap came with a small keychain-like ring on the end of each connector (you can see one of them in the third picture). Maybe you could just find two small keychain rings and attach it to each of the clasps so that you can connect it to your camera.

Very cool,
I have one of the red ones with mickey hands and feet and ears and pants (mickey parts..I guess, kinda weird actually now that I think of it) but that film strip design is much cooler. Great snag congratulations

Very cool. I might be tempted to even take off the Op/Tech and put that on for a day at WDW... well, maybe MK at least. :)

I'm still hunting for a replacement WDW lens cap... I had a 49mm one then managed to lose it at Disneyland (in the Steve Martin movie, and went it to look for it right afterwards but it had disappeared and lost & found never got it), and have been keeping an eye on eBay and Craigslist since then. So far, only one has been on eBay, and it was 55mm - I don't have a single lens that takes 55mm filters. :)

ooooooo.....I want the lens cap. ::yes::

I like the look of the strap but I find that those kind of straps are abrasive against my neck so I opted for a neoprene one. But the lens cap is very doable...yes indeed....

There are a few on EBAY

Ahh, for just a moment there, I thought you were linking to lens caps. :) I have eBay set to email any time a Disney lens cap is listed and there's been exactly in in the past few months. :( (So back off, fellow eBayers, I'm in line first! :lmao: )

I have the Silver/Gray strap and also an alternating Red/Black Mickey strap. The black "frames" of the "filmstrip" look like negatives and the red "frames" look as pictures like the one posted.

I was just debating tonight whether to put the Red/Black one on my new Xsi but as was posted earlier, they are a bit abrasive and have no padding to them.

In my trip report thread, I had promised to take some shots of this, so I did and finally got around to processing them! (Expect holiday fireworks photos sometime around September! :lmao: )

The background... I knew that I wanted some way to carry my tripod more easily. I looked at commercial straps and most just didn't seem to appeal to me, they looked a bit wonky and some involved extra work to take them on/off, etc. Bags looked even worse; the last thing I want to worry about is what to do with a big bag when I take the tripod out; plus it's just one more thing to slow you down, and to carry if you're moving the extended tripod from place to place.

I bought an Op/Tech SOS Strap for my camera bag (old boxy Tamrac) and removed the existing strap. I decided to see if I could attach it to my tripod and how well that'd work. Turns out that it works fairly well. Here's how it looks. (Ignore the poor painting job in the background! ;) )

Basically, one end attaches to the center column under where the legs meet, and the other attaches to one of the legs. Here's closeups of the attachment points:

Surprisingly, I've never had any issue whatsoever with the strap on the leg sliding up. Maybe the carbon fiber is just "rough" enough to get a good grip on it, or the angle that the strap pulls is enough, but it stays on there very well.

This is how I usually carry it when using the strap:

It's no great fashion statement but probably better than a photo vest or fanny pack. :rotfl2:

The biggest issue is that it does slide on my shoulder, I often have to hitch it back up, otherwise it tends to slide down and go more sideways. I'll also usually be very careful to keep it upright if I'll getting on/off a crowded bus going to/from the parks. (I usually end up with the tripod on my back, camera bag on shoulder, camera around neck, and carrying a big folded stroller - what a mule!)

I may try the Op/Tech tripod strap one of these days, but for the moment, this works pretty well, and was essentially free. From what I've seen, no tripod strap is anywhere near perfect, so if you have an extra strap lying around and want to carry your tripod more easily, give it a shot!

Pretty similar to my set up, I'll try and remember to take a picture of it this evening when I pull it out for fireworks.

Thats a good inexpensive option. I just opted to buy a tripod bag ($30). It holds my tripod with ball head and will also hold a monopod when I get one of those pretty soon. If I upgrade my tripod, I'll have to take the ball head off, but it will all still fit.

Nice work Groucho.

Looks good Groucho!
I have a similar tripod and bought an 8" x 18" ditty bag from REI to carry it in. A spare camera bag strap attaches to the loop at the bottom of the bag and to the string closure at the top.

I'll have to try your method and see which works best.

Looks good- I have the tripod bag also for my full size one.

But I was lugging my mini tripod around the MK last weekend and made a home-made one out of one of those Mickey water bottle lanyards. It worked pretty good for a compact tripod.

My cheap-@$$ solution has been to use the extra length of straps that are on my Tamrac camera bag (backpack style) and tie one of them around the tripod center shaft and just hook a leg over the shoulder strap - actually fits quite well, doesn't get in my way while walking, and is easy to keep track of when getting on and off rides. Of course, my tripod is not a heavy duty, overly heavy model. I like your stap idea, though.

How well does it function if you are carrying something else on your shoulder/back?
