I'm planning to buy a TX30 for our next trip, but it's not available yet and the release date is shortly before we leave.

What's the best way to ensure I have it for the trip? Are Sony's release dates trustworthy?

I don't know its guaranteed dates. They try their best, but they are dealing with global factories (that may experience events like earthquakes), overseas cargo shipping and distribution. I think there may of been delays in the RX100 or at least the RX1.

Do you have an existing camera plan "B"?

Do you have a local Sony store, and could you reserve, but choose another if the delivery date is not met?

Plan B is overnight delivery from Amazon to BLT. That's worked flawlessly in the past when I've needed something.

Plan C is to put my iPhone in a Dicapac, which is what I did last trip... but let's not disgust that option ;-)

Reserving at the Sony store is a great idea, though! Thanks!!

Betting on an unreleased product is a risky strategy. Do you have another camera to use if it isn't released in time? If so, I'd plan on that as a primary strategy and the new camera "would be nice" strategy if it ships.

They ship the second week of April to retailers. Please buy from a local photo specialty store if possible.

Mister Z is a Sony rep that I asked about on your behalf. You can see that he shared the release date, so I hope it helps with your planning. Good luck!

Thank! That'll be my first choice.

I've gone around a few times on which camera to get, and for the purposes of casual, convenient, park photography, I think the TX30 will be the right one. I was almost sold on the Olympus TG-2, but it's too big for summer trips that include the water parks. We travel really light in the summer.
