I hope this is considered fluffy enough....

I am not a serious photographer. I just like to take pictures for memories. I have a nice 35 mm SLR camera and a point and shoot. I use my point and shoot the most.

That being said. I would like to have a digital camera so I could post pictures here and e-mail to family, but I don't have the money to spend.

I was at Wal-Mart and saw digital cameras for $20. Does anyone have experience with these? Do you think it would be worth $20, or do you think they would be worthless?

I promise to post my first picture here.

$20!!! Well - you get what you pay for, Carol. I'd be leery.

I'd be wary of that too, Carol! I think a good average range digital camera will be about $250 so I cannot image what a $20 would be like. I'd personally go for a scanner if you aren't wanting to spend the money. That way you could scan in your prints :)

Hey gang I think the $20 camera will work for what Carol has described, just fine. She didn't say she was going to be printing them out and framing them. The picture quality will not be even close to her SLR, but neither is my 4.1Mega Pixel Sony. If all you want is to have an easy means to load pics for the web and email...it'll be fine. For people on dial up any picture bigger than 200K is an annoyance, so keeping them small will not highlight or lowlight the quality of the camera.

The other thing you may want to consider Carol is picking up a scanner...you can find alot of discontinued/odd lot type stuff that bigger retailers wanted to get rid of at compgeeks.com The scanner will allow you to take your SLR pics and make them digital to post or email. I've gotten CD-recorders from them for under $50-brand new with Nero burning software, and I'm sure they have scanners that you could pick up for under $100, which will give you the best of both worlds...great pictures (with your SLR) and you can save them/share them with friends and all of us here on the DIS. :D
