I'm sorry if this topic has been covered, but I wasn't really able to find anything to help me.

My boyfriend and I are going to Disney World in February. He would like to take his DSLR with him to take pictures around Disney World. His concern is what to do with the camera when we go on rides. I realize a lot of rides will allow you take a bag on with you, but what should we do for the rides that you can't? Obviously he doesn't want to get his camera stolen, so leaving it while we're on the ride would be scary. What would be the best solution for this, other than not riding those rides. ;) If there is no good solution for this problem, what rides should we avoid while he has his camera with him?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give us! :goodvibes

Many people take their DSLRs with them. I took mine with me last time. I have a tiny shoulder bag I use. The only rides I would be concerned with are water based rides.

On RR you just put it at your feet. Gforces will keep it there. Though I usually just wrap it around my leg for mental state of mine. There are pouches to put it in on EE.

But, I wouldn't carry a bag that keeps his whole kit if we are talking about 4 lens, flash, etc.

Wow, so he can actually take it with him on RR and EE? I just assumed that roller coaster = no bag. :rotfl: So besides wet rides, are there ANY rides he wouldn't be able to take a small bag on? Thanks for your help! :)

Disney does not put any restrictions on bags on rides that I have ever seen, and definitely not for a small bag. They also are not restricted from the wet rides, so as long as you feel comfortable in protecting your camera from the water it can go on it. If his camera bag does not have a waterproof cover then I would just bring a trash bag to wrap around it on those rides.

Universal used to restrict bags several years ago, or perhaps still does, although I don't recall from the last time we were there. It's nice that they provided free lockers, but it would have been nicer if they let you get your stuff back out!

I can't think of any rides that I didn't bring my dslr on and we went on everything. Keep it out on EE to take some shots! I kept it around my neck on every ride except Kali- I put it in a bag and put it in the compartment in the middle of the boat. I kept my p&s out to take pictures and stuck it in a small plastic bag for the really wet parts.

Disney is extremely photo friendly! I use a photo backpack, and I either put it at my feet or (on Space Mtn) wear it backwards so it's on my front.

Here's one I just took on EE. I love taking photos on rides.

There's certainly no problem with you carrying your camera on these rides, certainly plenty of people even keep their camcorders going during them. I've heard about restrictions on photography during RnRC but haven't seen anything myself and was able to take pictures (no flash, of course) with no problem.

I like using a fisheye on EE and BTMRR...

If you're brave, you can keep it out for Splash Mountain, too. :teeth:

Thanks for all the help everyone! I'm glad to know we'll have no issues bringing our camera. Maybe we'll even be able to get some cool on ride photos too. I really like the EE one. :)

I take my DSLR everywhere at Disney.

One of the things that I do when I go to a park is go to a store and ask for a medium bag. I carry that with me to put my camera in on wet rides and if it rains! :laundy:

Groucho: Man, talk about hardcore! LOL. We should have a thread just on ride pics!

I can't really think of any rides not to take a dslr on. ;)

Here is one for Dark Rides and Shows

here is another one for Low Light shows and rides.

Curiously, both threads started by the same person. :confused3 :confused3

Of course the 2006 Weekly Photo Contest: Rides

The 2007 Weekly Photo Contest: Rides

The 2008 Weekly Photo Contest: Rides

We've probably had a few others, but this is what I could find with a quick search.

You need to hang on really, really tight if you're going to have your camera out on a rollercoaster. :) You'll also want to wrap your strap about your wrist somehow, the tighter the better. Make sure that if it somehow is wrenched out of your hand, that it won't go flying away!

I know there are G-forces but wouldnt the twists and turns on RRR send your camera smack into your face?

Just make sure you hold the camera out in front of you and not right up to your face. These were taken on California Screamin' at DCA....

The big climb...

Nice, though I think they'd be even better with a wide-angle lens... maybe even a fish. ;) I rode California Screaming twice last trip, I have no memory of why I didn't take any photos when on it. It was my first time riding it, it is a great coaster!
