This is from DH. Do you take camera eqipment such as spare batteries and recharging units in hand luggage? He must be starting to get excited about this trip, its the first question he's asked, either that or I'm so efficient about asking all the other questions!

I do just incase the checked luggage goes walkabout!!

Claire ;)

Oh yes. My camera (both video and stills) stays with me all the time. Wouldn't want that to be lobbed around by baggage handlers!

Fully agree with the above!

In the next few days I'm buying another Canon Digital SLR so all the more reason to keep my kit with me!

Yeah definitely keep all camera gear in hand luggage. I don't bother with recharging gear, with two cameras, iPods and a PSP there are a lot of cables, so I always put this sort of stuff in the case. But, SLR and lenses along with iPod, compact camera and PSP all go in a camera bag as my hand luggage.

I take my camera and camcorder as hand luggage. Someone suggested putting silicon gel in with them as it helps protect in the humidity.

I seem to recall all electrical goods have to be in the hand luggage for security reasons.. don't want TSA stopping me for having suspicious electrics and batteries in the suitcases.. might give them the wrong impression :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think all Electrical items need to go in your suitcases, items like portable hair dryer/Iron etc should always be anyway.

We take our digital camera and camcorder (as well as the portable DVD) in our hand luggage, no wonder we are struggling to carry it all...may not bother with the camcorder in August.

How else can you video take off and landing.

Steve

You can't.

All electronic equipment has to be turned off for take off and landing. The rules and safety announcements are clear on this. They say all electronic equipment, not all electronic equipment except camcorders.

FWIW, for us cameras etc travel in hand baggage; chargers etc. in checked baggage.

My gear is all over the bed at present, just to make sure I don't forget anything. My wife dispairs when she see's all the leads, batteries etc and her eyes roll when she spots the tripod (well I do need it to capture night shots and fireworks).

I usally put leads tripod and head etc in a camcorder bag in the suitcase and it must look highly suspect, however I have never had a problem (aside from an jobsworth prat who tried to force me to put the laptop into the hold on the connecting flight between Belfast and London!!)

But the camera, Camcorder and lenses come with me

The result of carrying all this kit cam be seen by following the link in this thread http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=979644
