Not enough information. I think that my camera (Canon 5D Mark II) fits your description, but my gut says that you won't want a bulky, expensive DSLR.
What's your budget? How important are various things like size, low light performance, zoom range, ability to change lenses, water resistance, or an optical viewfinder? Are there other features that are important to you?
As a general rule, picture quality depends on sensor size. DSLR's have large sensors and point and shoot cameras have tiny sensors. I mediocre DSLR is going to take much better pictures than a good point and shoot, especially when the light is poor. On the other hand, a DSLR is expensive and bulky.
Point and shoot cameras come in a variety of sizes from tiny to almost as big as a DSLR. More size usually gives you benefits like greater zoom range, better flash, optical viewfinder, and a larger LCD.
I would suggest going to a local store and looking at the cameras there to see which ones you like. Then come back with a model or two and ask what people think of that and similar cameras. Without narrowing down the choices a bit, no one will know what the right camera for you is.
