You guys are so committed- there is no way I would lug that much around Disney. I would say 90% of the time I'm there it's with one prime lens. Just got done 'packing' for this weekend at CSR- I am taking the little tripod since MK is open until 3am tomorrow night. ;)

Looks like someone has a new toy... NICE!!!!:thumbsup2

You also live 83.2 miles from WDW, so my guess is that you get more chances to visit. I have once or twice a year to capture all of my ideas for photographs and enjoy all of the attractions. Heck, if I lived that close, I might not even take my camera on some visits (okay...maybe that isn't true!) Good luck this weekend, can't wait to see what shots you capture with the new toy!

Nice, Jeff! Can't wait to see the shots you are going to get from the rangefinder. Invest in any Leica M lenses yet (I think they fit the Epson... not sure)?

Seriously though- all you guys with backpacks actually carry those all over the parks? Even when I went to New Orleans just for Photography the most I ever carried was two cameras with a lens for each and a few misc items in my pocket- memory- etc. Most of the time I still rolled with 1 camera and 1 prime lens- the rest stayed at the hotel.

I know that 99% of the time when I roll into anywhere, I try to take my lowepro sling bag. It holds one camera and usually 3-4 lenses. I never know what I might see that I want a different shot, so I take my 18-55 kit lens, my 50mm f/1.4, my fisheye lens, and if I think of a reason to take it my 70-300mm lens. But again, my sling bag is not too inconvenient. Oh, and my tripod if I will be doing night shots. :rolleyes1

I don't know about everyone else, and I haven't been to WDW with the D90 yet---but for some trips I have made with it I have carried the D90 with one attached lens, an additional lens in my bag, a lens pen and some memory cards. I guess for a woman carrying a bag is no big deal, in the past I have just wrapped up the additional lens in something soft and tossed it in my purse.

My plan is to do the same each day during our trip(s) to The World this year. We'll be taking a mid-day break each day to pick up the tripod, so if I decide I want a different lens, I can swap out then.

While in DC in April I tried to carry my D90, 18-200, 50mm f/1.8, 60mm f/2.8, Sigma 30 f/1.4, the SB-600 and some other junk and it was exhausting :faint: and totally not worth it at all since I only used two of the lenses the whole time. I ditched that set-up after one day and me and my back didn't regret it at all. :rotfl:

Yep.

Well, let me qualify that by saying I have schlepped my backpack with gear all over the MK for about two days in a row during April and May. To do that for an entire week in the middle of summer changes it up a bit.

Also, the couple of times I have been down there with my full DSLR gear, I was by myself and didn't have the family in tow.

This September will be my first full test of having all my gear AND my family there at the same time (DW, DD(7), DS(4)). We'll see how it goes... I'm sure my gear will get lighter as the week goes on. I'm predicting that my BlackRapid strap was a good investment.

no bag... just a vest to carry any extra lenses for the day as well as batteries, memory, cleaning supplies, and drinks

2 bodies, one A700 with 28-75 2.8 lens and flash,,the other A700 with 80-200 2.8 lens

I have one of the Crumpler bags that I really like. I don't actually carry it in the parks because we have 2 kids, a diaper bag and stroller to deal with. I usually just carry the camera around my neck.

Since I don't carry a purse in the parks, my wallet and the case for my Maui Jims go into the backpack too. I figure it comes off often enough when riding or sitting that I get a break from carrying it. :) I don't carry my laptop into the parks, and that is most of the weight in that backpack. I am planning my first solo trip for December, and I know I could not have stood that sling bag for the whole trip by myself. I have to have my extra batteries and cards though, and I hate stuffing things in my pockets. I would rather have the backpack. :) We will see how I like the backpack when it is just me carrying it this time!! LOL!:rotfl:

Yep. Even on the days when we go in August where we start at 7:30 a.m. and go non-stop until 3 or 4 a.m., I have never had a problem with it bothering me. Maybe I am just oblivious to it thanks to the wonderful surroundings, or perhaps I am just that hardcore? :confused3

....Okay, definitely the former! It doesn't hurt that I drink plenty of Coke to keep me going (it's the only time of year I have caffeine, so it does the trick for me).

This is a great thread...I see so many incredible WDW photos over at Flickr and I have been curious to see what set ups make these shots happen. In January I'll be making my first trip to WDW with a DSLR setup, and here's what I've got so far for it:

Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW (I wanted a more feminine bag but the size and construction of this bag seemed great)
Sony a200
Sony 18-70
Sony 75-300
Minolta 50 f/1.7
Joby Gorillapod SLR
Remote Shutter Release

I would love to invest in a UWA...maybe I'll ask Santa for one! For me it's the Sigma 10-20. I don't think the Tokina 11-16 that some of you mentioned earlier is available for Sony (is anything Tokina compatible with Sony?)

Now I've got a question for you WDW photo veterans: how often do you change lenses around the parks?

I found I used the 70-300 mm lens only on the Kilimanjari safari ride. The rest of the time I had the 18-70mm lens and it worked great. I am not sure if I will invest in a new lens for Christmas. I want to take a solo trip then. :)

I'll be going at the end of August and my setup will looks like this...

Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW

Canon T1i
18-55 f/3.5-5.6 (kit)
Canon 50 1.4
Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS +hood

I still might get a hood for the 50 1.4 before the trip, but I don't have it yet. I haven't taken a good camera like that before to Disney World and I'm really pumped to do so. I have traveled around town all day in the 100 degree heat with my gear - so I'm not worried about lugging it around Disney World :) :thumbsup2

Kaigler, I have almost the same set up except for the Canon 70-200 mm, I have the 55-250 mm. I got the Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW too. I'm on the fence about keeping (picked it up at Costco). It seems pretty comfortable. I'm just not sure how I would do with it crushing my ****s all day (hope I can say that). I love all the compartments it has. I'll have to try wearing it around on a day trip with all my stuff in it.

yes,, my 80-200 2.8 is a Tokina lens..

I cheat, I don't change lenses I change cameras. it's faster and no chance of dust on my sensors..

Yeah, just spend a day shooting at a garden or something similar. I have read about people both loving and hating the Slingshot 200 AW at Disney World. It really just depends on the person. I should also mention that I bought a smaller Tamrac Velocity 6x for days when I just want to bring one camera, one lens. It won't fit the 70-200, but it fits the 50 1.4 just fine.

I've got a trip coming up in August and my new bag just arrived today from Adorama. It's the Lowepro Nova 170. Should hold all my gear. Here's what I've got...

Canon XSi
Canon 75-300 4-5.6 (probably only bring this to AK)
Canon 50 1.8
Tamron 28-75 2.8 (stays on the camera)
hood for Tamron
3 SD cards (Extreme III 4gb/each)
Flip video camera (30 minute)

Possibly bringing the tripod as I have a stroller with me too. Not sure yet. May also upgrade my p&s to a waterproof model and bring that along for the wet rides.

I ordered a couple of 5x7 prints from a recent Star Wars Weekend visit and was surprised at the poor quality of the resulting prints. The color was washed out and there were stripes on both prints. For $13 a print I don't think its unreasonable to expect a minimum of quality control. Its obvious that these prints weren't even glanced at or they wouldn't have been sent out.

I opened a customer service case via the PhotoPass website and got an equally surprising response. They did offer to reprint the photos if the images were still available or refund them otherwise which is great, but required that the original prints be returned at my expense. I get that Disney is probably trying to avoid people getting themselves free double prints by needlessly complaining but I hate it when a business assumes I'm trying to cheat them and expects me to shoulder any expenses to correct their mistake.

In the end I called customer service, explained my problem with the quality, and the rep cheerfully offered to reprint them and expedite shipping of the replacements with no need for me to send in the bad prints (which are going straight in the trash as soon as the replacements arrive). So call if you have any problems. I didn't even have to ask for replacements, they apologized and immediately offered them.

Something else to be aware of. You aren't dealing with Disney when you . Like many services, Disney has contracted out production of the photopass products to at least 2 companies. Jostens (yes the class ring people) produces the photobooks in Kansas. Ezprints of Norcross, GA produces the prints and other products. Not sure who does the photo CDs but it would make sense for ezprints to do this as well.

This coupled with bait-and-switch type complaints I've been reading about pricing of photopass CDs makes me think Disney should take a bit more control of PhotoPass from the companies they've contracted to produce these products for them. Disney is known for high prices but good customer service and PhotoPass is gaining a reputation for having only half that formula.
