Maybe not the best option, but I often carry my Nikon version of the 70-200 in its own case cross body and then carry a small messenger camera bag. I just got a new bag yesterday that will hold that lens attached to the camera body, but haven't really had time to try it out.

I found a major problem with the messenger bag that I had was that it wouldn't fit in a lot of the mesh pockets on the rides. I had a terrible time getting it into the Indiana Jones Ride mesh pocket at Disneyland and in fact, it was only half way in. I braced the top part of the bag with my knees so it wouldn't fly out. In reality, it was wedged in there tighter than a pig in a sewer pipe... I had to work hard to get it out. The backpack that I got for WDW was easier to carry and fit in the mesh pockets easier.

I don't even think my camera would fit into the mesh bags on the rides. However I just hold it in my hand, I am positive the bag I carry when I carry the bag will not fit, so that's not much of a concern, I just hold the bag and or the camera, have never had a problem so far.

And an Update, after looking all over the web at a ton of bags, I decided to go with a $6M home. It apears that it will fit the items I want to carry, and perhaps even fit that 10-20 that I want to complete my kit. It is supposed to be here by friday, so I'll be able to test it out this weekend. I'll come back and let you all know what I think.

The 70-200 f2.8 is a bit of a beast. I just got one, and am finding out the hard way! I had recently rented a 100-400mm IS lens, and that was even harder to lug around. I did find myself taking it off the camera a LOT, and stowing it in my bag.

I'm really trying to lighten up this trip, and I'm looking for a small bag that will hold my Nikon D70s with the 70-200 f/2.8 lens attached.

I'd love something that the camera would just slide into, with only a little extra space for a spare battery, CF cards, etc... and maybe one pocket to hold my license, and some cash.

Does such a bag exist?

There are a few holster bags made specifically for the type of kit you will be carrying. I think it was Tamrac or maybe Think Tank. Can't remember for sure, but I did see a few in my local camera store. I looked at them briefly, but decided I wanted space for an extra lens (or two or three....)

Take a look at the Crumpler bags (Their website is kind of trippy) http://www.crumplerbags.com/

You can also try Lowepro bags. http://www.lowepro.com/

I have 2 Crumpler bags, a Nikon Bag, and a Domke bag. My small Nikon bag will hold my D80 with the 80-200 f2.8 attached.

I was in the camera store last night and saw a small bag from National Geographic that might do the trick.

If possible, you should look at a camera store to see what fits, is comfortable for you to carry, and meets your "fashion" needs.

Good luck.

I work at a camera store and I just checked our stock supply and would recommend these bags by lowepro:

Apex 140, Rezo 140, Nova 140, or Topload Zoom 1

I recommend lowepro because not only are they guaranteed for life, but I've had my lowepro for 8 years and it's been to many concerts (used to be a musician photographer) and 4 countries and looks brand new with the exception of being in the shape of my equipment.

Thank you so much for the suggestions, I've made a list of them and will be going to a camera store to see if they have any of them in stock.

I do like the looks of that Lowepro bag, so I think that's at the top of my list.

Again, thanks for the recommendations!

I just upgraded from a Cannon XTi that I bought as a kit with a huge bag, to a XSi that came with the body and 2 lenses. I may upgrade the lenses eventually, but I would expect the new ones will replace the old ones and I won't be carrying more than what is on the camera plus 1 or 2.

I need to purchase a bag for it. I came across a LowePro Sling pack and I think I like it. I see they have a few different sizes and not sure what to get, I am leaning towards the 100 since I think it'll be just right for the camera (ready to shoot) and 1 or 2 lenses. This would help lug it around Disney, in addition to our camping trips elsewhere like Acadia, D.C., and whereever else we end up.

Just wondering if anyone had input as if they like it and what size to get.

I actually bought the slingshot 100 and I like it. It's really convenient when I can just slide the bag around to have access to my camera. Now I have a Pentax K100D, the 50mm f/1.4 lens, the 18-55 kit lens, and the Tamron 70-300 lens and the first two do fine in the bag. However, when I have the Tamron on there, it's a little snug zipping it back up with my neck strap and everything. But I don't use my Tamron TOO often, so it's not that big of an issue. The only other thing I'll mention is, if you DO need to frequently change lenses, it's a little tricky because I'm trying to access the other lens, without dropping anything. All in all, I'd buy it again if I had to do it all over. :thumbsup2

I also have the Slingshot 100 and it easily holds my camera with a lens mounted and I have had another 3 lenses in it at one time. It isn't large enough for any really long zoom lenses but I definitely love the size for carrying the camera plus another lens or two. If you have a big zoom then you would have to get the 200 or 300.

Being able to swing it around to get a different lens is a very nice feature.

I also have a backpack that I use for travel that holds a laptop and I have an old Tamrac shoulder bag, but the Lowepro is what I take everytime unless I need the laptop.

I have the slingshot 200 and love it. I have room for all my equipment and still room for snacks and stuff. Just a hint ebay is the cheapest place to get these bags.

I second that on the slingshot 200.

Here is mine with some disney patches I affixed to it.

I have 2 bags. 1 big one to hold all my stuff (body, 6 lenses and flash) and a 2nd to use as a day/overnight pack for just the essential stuff I'll need.

I use the Tamrac Adventure 9 to hold all my stuff and the LowPro Slingshot 200 to hold the body and a few lenses/flash.

I really like the Slingshot 200. Fits me nicely and feels very secure holding my gear.

I agree on the 200. I carry 5 lens, camera with battery pack, flash and extra batteries with a liitle room to spare :goodvibes

I guess I'm the resident Slingshot party pooper around here. I tried both the 100 and 200 and didn't care for either of them. The 100 was too small for my Nikon D70 and 3 lenses, one of which was the 50mm f/1.8, which is pretty tiny. I'm not sure whether it would accommodate the XSi with two lenses, especially if you want to carry anything else in the bag (like snacks for the kids, etc).

I exchanged it for the 200, which I carried for awhile, but it just wasn't comfortable. In fact, the only way I could adjust it so that it didn't hurt my back was to tighten it to the point that it was a royal pain to swing around to access my camera and just as much trouble to take off. Perhaps it depends on your build. I'm petite, and that may be part of the reason it didn't work for me, but I find backpacks to be much more comfortable and convenient.

I currently use this Kata backpack http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019VX3OO and a smaller Tamrac one when I want to travel lighter (I think the specific model is discontinued).

I have the 100 and for me, it works pretty well. I was also debating between the 100 and 200, but I wanted to keep things as compact as possible. I currently have my Olympus dSLR and 3 lenses, along with a monopod that fits on an outside band, and the usual batteries, cards, small tripod, instruction manual, cleaner, etc. I believe there will still be room even if I get another zoom lens. I am not a backpack person at all, but I do like the Slingshot.

I also use the same Kata backpack. I love it. It doesn't look big but it fits a lot. It carried:
Canon 40D with a 17-40 L lens
70-300 mm lens
50 mm lens
flash
Canon Elura camcorder
gorillapod
extra batteries (for camcorder and still)
baggie full of memory cards
a couple of mini dvs
little air puffer thingy
cleaning cloth
bottle of advil
wetnaps
rain poncho (and not one of those from the dollar store)
water bottle
and a big bag of pins after I bought them. LOL

Me too !! Guess us petite ladies have the same problem. :goodvibes
I was initially dissappointed that the slingback was uncomfortable, tried the Tamrac and didn't like that either.
I have a Lowepro backpack Microtrekker 200, holds my Nikon D80, 18-135mm, 50mm 1.8, 70-300vr & charger/cards. Its my main travel bag. I don't need all that gear daily..and I have a Lowepro toploader TLZ2 I use during the day. It can hold my 70-300 & 50 at the same time.

I would suggest taking your camera to the store and trialing it in a bag to get a good idea of fit.
