Right now I am using an Adorama Slinger bag for day trips and short excursions. Being left-handed I bought that version (who would have thought a camera bag would come left-handed and right-handed?) It is a messenger style bag that can either go over one shoulder or across your body. I am able to fit a Nikon D200 with a 17-55mm/f2.8 attached along with a 70-200mm/f2.8 and an SB-800 flash head. There are pockets that I keep 4 CompactFlash cards, 3 Nikon batteries, 6 AA batteries, and 2 77mm filters. It is pretty compact and will fit under a seat on rides or at a ballgame. I've found it fairly quick to get into when I need to. I wish it was just slightly taller as it is a tight fit if I have the 70-200 lens attached to the D200 in the bag. It still fits, it is just snug. It is a fairly versatile bag and compared to others on the market it is relatively inexpensive.

I use a similar strategy to TinksDH. I use a bigger bag to carry everything down and a smaller messenger style bag for in the parks. I prefer the messenger style because it is easy to get things in and out of. And on the rides, I just keep the strap across my body and sit the bag next to me. I'm currently using a Crumpler $5 mil for in the parks and have been pretty happy with it.

I use a naneu pro goombah bag to transport my gear, on location I grab the camera and lenses I want to use, put on my vest, put lenses in pockets and I'm good to go for any type of shoot,, my batteries memory cards etc, stay in the vest at all times, my bag is only for afe transportation..

Any chance a nikon d40 with 18-135 lens on it and a small camcorder can fit in your daytrip bag?

Anyone ever hear of or use KATA bags?
Here is one I was looking at when I would carry one DSLR with one lens (17-85)

I have a Kata bag, but not the one you're referencing. My bag is very good quality. It's heavier than any of the Lowepro bags I own, but it really is made well, and made to protect your gear. The padding inside is so thick that I don't ever worry about bumping the bag w/ my stuff in it. I've even dropped it w/ stuff in it :scared1: with no problems. It's very well made. :thumbsup2

I have the Adventure 9. I can fit my D50 with 18-135mm lens attached, 70-300mm VR lens, 90mm f/2.8 Tamron, 30mm f/1.4 Sigma, Nikon 50mm f/1.8, SB-600 Speedlight and Gary Fong Lightsphere II diffuser. In the top part I can fit my Sony Digital8 Video camera, a few extra tapes and the cord to charge the battery. In the side pockets I have the battery charger for the D50 battery on one side and a gorilla pod on the other side. I also keep 3 extra batteries, 2 filters, 8 (or so) SD cards and a few other small things in the front inside pocket.

On top of all that it holds our laptop and I can also fit with the Video camera a portable hard drive with cord and the power cord for the laptop.

All that being said,,,, it sucks when you carry it on your back. I'm 6' 280lbs and it is HEAVY. I don't carry all that around parks. I just use it to keep all my camera gear together in one place and also for traveling (once I get to my destination the laptop comes out along with all the cords, HD and video camera.

I can put a Nikon D200 with a 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens mounted and a Sony Mini-DV camcorder in that bag comfortably. The 18-200mm lens is is 0.4 inches longer than the 18-135 so you would be fine. The Slinger bag has an internal dimension of 10 X 10 X 4 so it is deceptively roomy inside. The only question would be whether your camcorder would fit in a bag with a 4 inch length. Most of the smaller video cameras I've used don't have a problem. The bag's 10 inch height means that you could lay the video camera vertically if necessary.

We just spent 5 days in Disney. My D50 never saw the inside of a bag except on the plane ride down and back. It was around my neck the whole time in the parks. The one day we went to AK I stuck my 75-210 lens(in it padded case) in my backpack(LLBean hiking pack) for the safari. I did buy and bring along a Zing neoprene case for the D50- I put in there 2 times. Once on Kali and once on Splash Mt. for protection from possible splash. I have an padded slr bag that I use when storing at home or on the airplane but when traveling anywhere my camera rarely sees the inside of a bag. I use it too much.

I use a lowpro slingshot 200 to carry around the parks. 99% of the time the camera is attached to my wrist, can't wear it around my neck or I would never make it though the day.

I use the Tamrac Velocity 9x and I pack it full with:
  • Canon 400D
  • 50mm f/1.8
  • 24-105mm f/4 USM L IS
  • 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
  • 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
  • 580x TTL
  • Olympus Stylus 840
  • 3 8gb memory cards (with another in the camera)

Oh, and in the suitcase:
  • Gitzo Traveler 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod
  • Gitzo G1178M Magnesium Center Ball Head
  • Sony VRDMC5 DVDirect DVD Recorder
  • Gateway notebook with CS3

I suppose I'm going to need to find a place for a clean pair of socks and maybe even an extra t-shirt.

Do a quick google search for Crumpler. They make various sizes of really nice camera bags. They are available directly from the manufacturer online or they can be found in better camera shops.

Pat.

I recently bought a Tenba Messenger bag. I can put my Canon 40D with 14-40 Lens, flash, cards, etc...and my 14 inch laptop. There's still room for some personal stuff too. When I get to the park, I intend to take the laptop out so it won't be so heavy. I haven't tried this at the park yet but I think it'll be better than a backpack.

I was looking a bit and saw one online but does anybody have one they recommend? I can't wait to take my D80 to Disneyworld. But I'm not sure i want to lug it around much but I definitely want to take it. Sometimes when my step mom goes I'd have a bag watcher but do you trust locking them in lockers?

I have a lowepro slingshot 200 and it has a weather proof cover that can easily tuck away back into the bottom of the bag.

We carried it everywhere during our trip last June and will again this year. It is very comfortable and stores a lot.

Are you looking for something truly water proof, like the kind you would need if you were going on a canoe? Or are you looking for something weather resistant, like you would need for walking around Disney in the rain?
