Yep, and you can use them during the flight if you want. Just not during takeoff and landing.
I don't think I'd ever put a camera or video camera in checked baggage. I'd be too worried about damage.

ANd BTW--never pack cameras or anything electronic in a checked bag, it will likely either be damaged or stolen.
