Hi everyone! I am new here to the forums...but have been to DisneyWorld probably over 10 times in my life. I LOVE the place! Anyways....I will be going back in July with my girlfriend...and wanted to bring my new camcorder to the parks. However, my concern was with the rides. Is it a pain in the neck taking the camera on rides, especially the coasters? I didn't want to risk getting it broken or being awkward with it. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks! :thumbsup2

:welcome: Welcome to the Dis!!

I haven't had an experience with taking camcorders or anything like that on the rides with me. But If you are taking a backpack with you, you can stick it in there and have it surrounded by soft items that won't break it.

There are only a few rides that are very turbulant and bumpy, such as Space Mt., Kiliminjaro Safari, any simulator ride, and Rock n Roller Coaster (this one has loops). So I'm sure your camcorder will be safe.

I think I'd tuck it away someplace safe on, say, Rock'N Roller Coaster, but I've videotaped the whole ride on Barnstormer, BTMRR, and Test Track. I love being able to relive the ride, months later, and to watch my turning-8-at-DisneyWorld-next-month daughter's expression as we go along.

Just my $0.02.

We have taken the camcorder with us several times, and hardly ever use it. It is getting to the point where DH says he's not taking it anymore. We are too busy to take it out, or we forget we even have it with us. It's just one more thing we have to carry. As far as riding the rides with it, I can't help you 'cause we've gone with little ones and someone was always left "holding the bag" with the youngest while the others would go on the more turbulant rides. I think we will most likely leave it at home next time.

there are some rides where they don't want you to use your camcorder. I have a video of me on Dino being told to turn off my camera - which I did, but it still cracks me up. There are many rides where they don't care, though. I have recorded Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, EE, RnR, TOT and Barnstormer. I always make sure to have the camera VERY secure. On RnR and TOT, for example, I strapped the velcro handle around my belt. I've also been able to store my camera in my back pack and safely ride. Just be careful; it would be terrible for someone to be hit by a falling camcorder!

I brought my Sony DVD HandyCam with us on the last trip and it really wasn't a hassle. Because it is fairly compact, I was able to keep it in my purse when not in use and had my purse zipped on rides where it had the potential to flip over. I don't know if I'll bring it on my next trip this fall - but only because I was just there and not because it got in the way.

I have some great footage of rides - all of POTC, TOT up until the doors open, part of IASM and the Mexico ride, the beginning videos from TT, Dinosaur, Muppets 3D, and MS. I even have some footage from when two rides broke down (Maelstrom and Test Track) while we were on them and I was able to capture the working behind the scenes.

After my friend and I shot our documentary there last year, we found out that most of the attractions are camcorder friendly. Ones that are not include: RNRC, Space Mountain, Star Tours (with the light on), and Stitch (even in the queue). The camcorder really does take you out of the magic, however, so I always suggest if you're going to tape an attraction or ride, make sure you've expreienced it first.

If you're worried about what to do with your camcorder on the rides...just wrap the strap of the case around your leg and it won't go anywhere.
