Camcorder at airport?

We just bought a camcorder and we wanted to chronicle our trip from beginning to end. Here are my questions. Are we allowed to do any filming outside or inside the airport terminal or on the plane? If not, are we allowed to bring the camcorder inside our carry-on or does it have to be inside our unlocked checked luggage (if that is the case we will leave it at home) Thanks for any help in advance.

You are allowed to do ALL of the things that you mention wanting to do. Just have the camera turned off when you are anywhere near going through and exiting security…as they very much frown on that.

Yup, you can carry it on and use it in the airport. We did just that!

You may be asked to remove your camcorder from your carry-on bag when going through security. Some airports are treating them as they do laptops. Out of the bag and in a bin to go through the scanner.

You can record while on the plane, just make sure it is off and properly stowed during take-off and landing.

I know at MCO you have to remove the camcorder from your carry on. PHL didn't have that rule and I got hung up in security for about 10 minutes while they searched my bag. Finally figured out that it was the extra batteries that were causing the problem. So, even if your airport doesn't require to you remove the camcorder, I would do it just to avoide any problems/inconvenience.

I had both a digital camcorder and a digital camera in my carry on bag. No problem with either.However I HAD 8 disposable water camera and that took some time to swab each platic camera wrap individually and place the small cloth in the machine to check for explosive residue

I would avoid taping near the security checkpoints, and also make sure the camera is off during the "no electronics" phases of your flight.
