Anyone stayed at either hotel?

Trying to narrow it down to one for January 2024 trip.

thank you!

I have stayed at Cambria. But not at Hyatt. Did you have specific questions? We really loved the Cambria.

I apologize for hijacking. How did you get to DL from the Cambria?
In the mornings we walked, and afternoons and evenings we used the Toy Story shuttles and walked back from there, using the Katella exit and entrance.
Kitchen area; shuttle to Disneyland.
Kitchen had a large fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and sink I believe. No utensils except for disposable coffee cups. We only used the fridge. It was nice to have a big fridge and a freezer.

There is an ART stop right behind the hotel. But as mentioned above, we utilized the free shuttle at the Toy Story parking lot. There’s an entrance to the Toy Story lot from Katella, that pedestrians can use.

We also really liked the breakfast that’s provided and how many food options were in the little strip mall that shares the parking lot with the Cambria.

I would pick the Hyatt. They have their own shuttle that actually keeps to a schedule so it is way better than taking ART which has to make multiple stops and is inconsistent. There's quite a few restaurants nearby and they have lots of recreational facilities. The Cambria also has this weird thing where they charge extra to use the pool if you don't book a suite but the pool does have water slides. The Cambria was very crowded with families when I was there.

But the Cambria does have free breakfast and all new rooms. The Hyatt has some rooms that were renovated recently and some rooms that are older so make sure you book the ones with bright photos on the website and not the ones with old carpet. While the renovated Hyatt rooms are nicer than the Cambria ones, they are a bit small though. So if you're traveling as a family, these could be reasons to prefer the Cambria.

If you're willing to pay for the breakfast buffet at the Hyatt, it is much better than the free breakfast at the Cambria.

From the standpoint of those two, I cannot comment, but we did stay at the Hampton across the street from Cambria and will say it was very nice, had free breakfast, and was a quick walk to the Toy Story parking lot followed by the bus ride to the park.

The other benefit of taking this route is you go through security at the Toy Story parking lot beforehand and walk right by security lines at the park as well as have dedicated shuttles waiting for you at night.

Whether you go through security at the Toy Story parking lot or not depends on the time of day. I remember going through security there in the morning, but having to go through security at the park when returning after a midday break. (I don't know what time they make the change.)

We stayed at the Cambria during the dreaded October time of the year so that's likely what could have made my experience a bit more negative... I found it to be just chaotic even if the rooms were nice. The free breakfast was a literal feeding frenzy, spilled food all over, items running out and people just like trampling each other to get to everything. Honestly, that was kind of the whole vibe I got when we were there, same with the pool area just lots of big, loud families, youth sports teams, etc. And I have kids so it's not like I can't handle some chaos but I felt like this hotel attracted a lot of youth groups/teams, bigger families, etc. I think it probably just depends on time of year though. The free breakfast was a nice perk! I didn't like how far away it was and that would be the sole reason I'd opt for walking distance across the street over any other amenity.

I completely agree with this assessment of the pool and lobby based on my visit in August if I remember the date correctly. Your breakfast experience seems particularly bad but I don't think it's seasonal. I think I stayed at about a dozen different hotels near Disneyland last year and the Cambria was by far the most chaotic hotel I've been to.

Hyatt Regency is a FAR better quality hotel than Cambria. It's really no contest.
