I just did this in April, I called for myself, and I did not have one, but low and behold... My mom had one attached to her name...soooooo in 18 days, My DDs and mom are off to see our BFF the Mouse!!
We didn't think we could go to Disney this year because the 25% off a room wasn't working for us. So before we gave up, I called and even though I never got an email or card, I had 2 pins attached to my name. One for free dining for June and July and a 30% off room code. We used the free dining and will be there June27-July 6!! Call and ask, it never hurts. Good luck.
I called the other day to check some room rates for family of 5 (whole other story) and while I had the CM on the phone I asked if they could check for any pins attached to my name since I had deleted some Disney emails I thought might have one. Lo and behold I had a 30% to any resort. BUT I had to travel by June 1st. Oops! So it doesn't hurt to check. Now the Disney emails I deleted I don't think had a pin but maybe they did. Hopefully I get another one or 2 for the trips we have planned in July and sept or oct!
I know it drives some of the CMs nuts, but I call at least a few times per month, and a couple of times it really paid off. Be prepared to wait on hold for quite some time though.
I have tried a few times and am always surprised at how generally annoyed the CM's sound. (I am very pleasant with them.) I will keep trying occasionally though, because the CM's aren't the ones paying for our trip!
I would definitely call in every now and then to check if a PIN is available, especially if you have an upcoming trip planned. I did that a few times, and finally got a pin which I am currently using on our November trip, but never got any e-mail or mail about the pin. Had I not called, I would have missed out

I stand corrected! I just called, and although I did not have any pins/discounts, I spoke to the nicest CM ever (Bud? Buck?). He actually told me to call from time to time because although they typically send Pins via email or regular mail, sometimes they fall thru the cracks and in those cases the only way to find out is to call. He was very nice. It certainly makes hearing the news of not having a pin easier to take when the one saying it is so pleasant!
I've called 3 times within the past 2 days. I'm not usually that psycho about it, but I HAD to, with all the pixie dust flying around the DIS! We got a FD code, back in Sept '09, & I didn't get an email or any info about it. Just called in & there it was! Of course, the same deal was opened to the general public a couple of months later, but at least I got 1st dibs on resorts.
