Calling to Canada from Disney

I think the idea of having Dad call the room was great. Send him a text when you get back to the room for the night saying it's a good time to call. The text will only cost you a tiny bit and the rest of the call is minimal to Dad. Seems much easier than buying a calling card or US cell phone, especially if you're only talking about a couple of calls.

skype or good calling card (the asian grocery/convenience stores sell the cheapest ones!)

we ended up buying 2 t-mobile pay as you go SIM cards and unlocked our cellphones. works perfect as we can stay in touch with each other at the parks. Also, texting is 5 cents each, even to Canada. Calling Canada is just 50 cents a minute. Best of all, unlimited internet on our cellphone is $2-$3 a day. QUOTE]

this is a great idea.. but how do you manage the day cost .. do you just call in and say you want data for certain days ?? not clear on this.

we used skype on our laptop/iphones when we were there , we stayed off disney in a house with wifi , so we just called with skype to our parents home in NB

When we went the WiFi was not set up yet. I made a quick collect the first night to my DW after she answered I gave her the resort and room numbers then she just called me back. Our land line is unlimited calling anywhere in Canada or US.

The collect call was less then a Lonnie. This year with the WiFi I'm going to try FaceTime but from what I hear the Wifi is week. If that doesn't work I'll send her an email.

On your phone, there will be an option to change your calling plan. I just change it to the 1 with data. It lasts from midnight of the day you choose to midnight (1 day). If you don;t change your plan, it is activated again each time you use your phone. If you don't use your phone, you don't get charged. I've forgotten many times to change my plan before I come back to Canada and I have never gotten charged when I don't use the phone. Once I use the phone once, they daily charge is back in place until I change the calling plan.

If I choose not to do the daily plan, it's straight pay as you go - which is great, and worth it.

Put me down also for using a calling card.

We bought a $10 calling card from the Super Store nd gave us I think it was about 250 min of talk time? There were no phone charges from Disney for using their phone either.

Just fallow the simple instruction on the card and your set best value if you can wait to call from your room etc... rather then calling at random times on a cell phone with a US plan.
