Calling Resort Prior to an Early Check-In

Has anyone ever called the resort where they are going to be staying (prior to check-in) to find out if their room could/will be ready for an early check-in?

Our situation is that we will be arriving in Orlando on 9/14 but don't check in to the Poly until 9/17. If our room will be ready for a 9am check-in, we'd like to go ahead and stop at the grocery store on our way to the Poly. If it's not going to be ready, we don't want to stop at the store and leave food in the car for several hours while we're at MK. (I would prefer not to return to the reality of "the grocery store" once I am at Disney.)

I understand that check-in is quite a bit later in the day but I'm really hoping that Sept will be slow enough that we might be able to go ahead and check-in early. Has anyone ever called prior to arriving/checking-in to find out if their room would possibly be ready at such an early hour?

You can certainly call ahead, but your room is really NOT guarenteed until you physically check-in, so there is a chance that if you call in and someone says your room is ready and something odd happens, that room could end up no longer being ready (i.e. a watermain breaks or a disgruntled guest demands to be moved ASAP and that's the only clean room available).

Now the good news with this- given that September is traditionally slower, the chance of this happening is kind of slim, and a room SHOULD be ready and clean for you...now the tradeoff is that this may not be exactly where you would like it to be (you may have requested building A, but this would be in building G or something like that). If a clean room is your only concern, that shouldn't be too much of an issue. If you have your heart set on a special view, that may be more difficult- remember its called a "preferred" view for a reason. In a perfect world, both your preferences and a "ready room" can be combined. :D

As for your grocery stop, have no fear- bell services can store your perishables in a refrigerator until its time to go to your room if the room is not ready right then. Hope this helps!

I don't think you would get very far with that idea. You would do better to drive over and check in stating your request. They are very eager to please in person.

to the resort the day before and talk to them at the front desk. That's what we did. We were off site for 4 days and one day we went to the BC and talked to the front desk. We got set up for the room we wanted and told them we would be over probably around 9 am. We go there at 10am and our room was ready and it was the room we requested. This was in July so it was not during a slow period. However this was in the villas so most people aren't in them on Friday and Saturday night because of the point cost.

Thanks everyone. Didn't know that bell services could stash the cold stuff for us. Guess we'll be stopping at the store on the way in!

Thanks again!
