Calling Resort Directly vs. Member Services

Maybe this is only an issue with Aulani because it is so new, but I was being told by member services that I couldn't make reservations in advance for certain experiences at the resort and since I am anal and like to have all my ducks in a row I wasn't into that as answer. So I decided to call the resort directly and, sure enough, you could make reservations in advance!! I found that very frustrating!! Is that an issue across the board?

What type of "experiences" are you booking?

It was the "Premium Experiences at Aunty's Beach House (ie. the stuff you have to pay for).
