DD is in year 1 (6years old), we are planning 2009 holiday.

Help am i correct in thinking when she is 7 she starts the sats exam thingys!!!!

When are these held is generally across the board at the same time.

Thought they stopped sats at that age. I m from wales but my ds now 10 didn't sit sats at 7. Also these are really only for the schools benefit IMO.

I thought the sats were in year 3:confused: , my ds adam is in y1 also, I will check with our school to find out:goodvibes ,ahhh they seem to young to be taking exams aged 7 :teacher:

In England the Key Stage 1 SATS are taken during Year 2. The children shouldn't even know they are doing a 'test' as it should just be introduced to them as a normal piece of work (although they won't be sitting in their normal places, as they copy like mad at that age!) They can be done at any time during Year 2 up to the end of May, but most schools will do them during May as, of course, the children know more then than they do back in September.;)
A lot of schools won't allow any authorised holidays during SATS year, and even those that do will usually refuse holidays during May.

They are due to be scrapped, but they are certainly taking place during this academic year in England.

we went to disney in may 06, my 2 middle daughters were in year 1 and year2 of primary school.
the school gave me permission for my daughter in year 1 but not for the one in year 2 because of her SAT exam.
i took her anyway because these tests are for the school.

In our Local Authority area this would an automatic fine of £50 per parent on your return. Of course most people save more than that by taking holiday during term time so they just pay up. Watch out that you pay in time or the fine doubles.

Eve is in year 4 and doesn't have SATS this year but the dates were second week in march-ending 12th ish

:)

We have 2 daughters aged 6 and 7 and are going to Disney :cool1: :beach: during May, her teacher has not set a date for sats but will be during may, her unofficial response to my request for leave was they have evidence of how she is doing anyway and can submit that instead if they decide to do whilst we are away and sats are not for the kids anyway for the schools use only and she will learn loads more in America learning things than sitting doing a sats paper, well done for seeing sense thats my reply lol

In year 2 SATs can be taken any time up to the middle of May. If they know your child will be absent they can arrange for the testing to be done before you go away. In year 3 - 5 SATs are done for internal testing purposes only, so can be caught up on when they get back. The only problem is in year 6 when each test has to be taken the same day by every year 6 child in the country. These are not marked by the school, they are sent off to an external examiner and so if your child is absent that day they will not be able to do the exam. However all end of key stage 2 grades are given a teacher assessment mark as well as a SATs grade. Both the teacher assessment grade and exam grade have to be reported on the end of key stage 2 report.
