I have never been in a Ross store before :confused3 but after reading a post here yesterday about the Teva sandals I decided to stop in and take a look....well long story short I didn't find the Teva's but I found a whole lot more. :earseek: Here are my questions????

How does the mark down process work? I saw some with some markdowns, is there more than one that happens?

Do they have coupons floating around or extra discount days?

Do they carry same season merchandise-like in winter, winter clothes, summer, summer clothes or is it off season?

Just a few questions. I saw some great things, but want to get the best value for my buck. Thanks for you help. :wave2:

I love Ross!!! :Pinkbounc I find something great almost everytime I go in there!! Coupons.....have never seen any, they have a senior citizen discount on Tues or Wed. but I don't think any other discounts, I go in there with the mentality that if I see something I like, I don't wait for it to get marked down because it usually doesn't last that long. I have bought things that are marked down and had several "marked down tags". I don't know what the time frame they use for markdowns is, sorry. Hope some of this helps.

Having been granted the senior discount (without asking for it by the way, I guess I look my age :guilty: ), I can tell you it is an extra 10% off on Tuesday, even on markdowns.

I agree though it is probably best to buy when you see something you want. By coincidence I was in Ross yesterday (hey, it is right by my Target). I say some good looking Columbia very cold weather outerware. There were only about 3, all in one size. I debated getting the blue one. When I check out, I asked the sales girl, she said they had just come in. The one I like was almost $200 full price oer the Columbia tag, Ross had it down to about $50.
I can't remember if that was a markdown or not, probably not.

I found our store did NOT have very much merchandise, especially for men (which was what I was looking for. Shoes were very picked over too. The only Tevas I saw for DD10 were flip flops (I bought them anyway at $3.)
Saw some Tevas in my size in camel but it is a style I already have in red and black so I passed. The were actually cheaper when I bought them at Dillards a couple of years ago at 75% off less another 25% (good sale) :goodvibes
Even though they were the thong style (obviously a summer style), they were not marked down at Ross. I thought that was wierd.

I don't think there are coupons. My huuby bought his whole summer wardrobe this year for about 189.00. 8 pairs of shorts and matching shirts regular 70-80 dollars for 10-15 each. I buy Limited too shirts for my DD and stuff for the house. LOVE IT!!

I agree with comments above. When we lived close to one we had the mentality that if we saw something, great, but if I was looking for a certain piece, I'd head elsewhere.

DH had much better luck finding clothes there than I did, I have to buy petite, although I did buy quite a few things including a black pea coat for under $50.

I also agree that I wouldn't wait for anything to get marked down further. I doubt it would be there, or that you would be able to find it if you went back.

I even bought my mom some t-shirt sheets several years ago for Christmas for pretty cheap. I miss having stores like that around.

I'AM VERY EXCITED :cheer2: ,BECAUSE I JUST FOUND OUT THAT DELAWARE
IS GETTING THERE FIRST ROSS BY MY HOUSE.

Hey I am from DE too...where is this going to be at? There is a new one in Salisbury that we have yet to shop at. My MIL loves Ross... there are plenty where she lives in TN.

Thanks guys for all your replies, I too was very excited about what was available and I will just check back frequently....

I wish my local Ross was better run. The last time I was in there the sizes were so mixed up it was ridiculous. I don't have time to go through every size on every rack trying to find something I like in my size. I have gotten some good deals there, but in general I don't like the store.

Its Going Next To Bj's On Rt13 In Newcastle.

Our local Ross store is much better run than the TJ Maxx (which I used to love) I go by when I'm in the mood to browse, not when I have to have a certain item. My favorite to buy @Ross is handbags. I always buy good name brands but for less than $20.. I've also found great deals on shoes (including Teva's) I hope you enjoy shopping there in the future.

I love Ross, but only on days when I have PLENTY of time and no small children along! ;)

I have found some terrific deals on shoes (like the Teva sandals for $3.49). I also like to go there for brand name clothes (Jones New York and Ralph Lauren) for myself. Those items are usually current season and much less expensive than the department stores. Once in awhile I can find things for DH - polo shirts, pants, shirts, etc.

The thing to watch at Ross is whether things are "first quality" or "irregular". I tried on a dress one day. It was a light blue linen. As I was pulling it over my head I noticed that where the fabric came together down the back seam the dye was COMPLETELY different colors. Not good! I will buy towels that are irregular, but that's about it. The price tag will usually say "irregular". I have seen jeans with HUGE flaws across them, so just be sure to look over the items carefully.

Happy shopping!! :)
