I am planning a trip for May '05 and I was hoping to stay at AKL for the first time. Unfortunatley, we are a family of five and we would need to book the deluxe room. Are any of the deluxe rooms on the concierge floor or can you add concierge? Also, which trail should we request? Does anyone have a specific deluxe room number that we should try and get?

Sorry so many questions. Thanks

I have never stayed in a deluxe or concierge room, but I believe the answers to your questions are:

Yes, all of the deluxe rooms are on the 5th and 6th floor, which are both primarily concierge floors. To the best of my knowledge, all of the rooms on the 6th floor are concierge rooms and a large number of the rooms on the 5th floor are concierge rooms. (The concierge lounge is on the 6th floor.) However, as I understand it, you have "concierge privileges" put on any room, regardless of where it is located in the resort.

My personal preference is the Arusha Savannah, but the Sunset and Uzima are also nice.

There are some deluxe non-concierge rooms on the 5th floor....but if you can swing concierge I say go for it. If you need any concierge info, there is a seperate thread for it on this board.

PS - allearsnet has a map of the resort with room #s on it. Maybe check that out. We are hoping for Arusha Savannah, 5th Fl Zebra TRail, somewhere around Mara/Pool etc.

Thanks guys for the help. So let me see if I have this straight. All concierge rooms are on 5th or 6th floor. 5th floor has both deluxe and non-deluxe sized rooms. Is 6th floor only deluxe concierge??

I definately will be "swinging" the concierge option. I just didn't see an option for deluxe concierge on the disney website. Maybe if you pay for concierge and need room for five, they put you in a deluxe?

At least I have six more months to worry about this. :sunny:

All rooms on the fifth and sixth floor are deluxe in size. SOME fifth floor rooms are concierge, all sixth floor rooms are concierge. Since the suites are also concierge, you can be on a different floor and still have concierge access. Deluxe room is a category of rooms that can be reserved at either pool view or savannah view prices. If you reserve a deluxe room you would be on the fifth floor for either view. I hope that helps!

#1hockeymom - Thanks for the info. On another thread, someone posted that they were on the 5th floor, concierge, but a standard sized room. I guess that is where the confusion is. Let's hope I get a knowledgable CM when I call CRO. What do you think my chances of getting an AP rate in May are?

Thanks again.

By the way, where is the lizard thread???

The lizard thread is over on the community board now. Please come join us! All fifth floor rooms, pool/savannah are deluxe rooms. I have had a concierge room on a different floor, not deluxe, but that was my choice *and my begging!* I wanted a certain location over the extra space/floor. I also didn't want to change rooms and my reservation started with a reg savannah view room. Perhaps it was one of my old posts that caused the confusion.

Good luck with those AP rates! AKL concierge is certainly worth calling back a dozen times for when they are released!

Thanks Debbie. I go on my trip and when I come back the lounge is gone???? :)

I didn't know where to find everyone to tell them about our wonderful trip to YC CL and WL CL.

Thanks again for the help with AKL. I definately need the extra space of the deluxe room.

I will be asking more questions on the lizard thread.

Have a good morning.

run a search on my name and click on the new lizard lounge link!

Um - can you put 5 people in a deluxe room?

The 2 times we have stayed AKL concierge we've had
1. King bed with day bed
2. 2 queen beds

both were "deluxe" rooms facing the savannah.

I don't see how 5 people would fit in a 'deluxe' room...unless I'm reading this wrong. (or if one of those 5 is an infant in a crib or maybe a cot?)

from allearsnet.com:
The following are the room types and numbers of rooms in each category: Standard View (facing the parking lot) 135 rooms; Pool View 136 rooms; Savanna View 724 rooms; Deluxe Pool View 33 rooms; Deluxe Savanna View 191 rooms and 55 Concierge rooms. The deluxe rooms are bigger than the standard rooms. There is also a Presidential and Vice Presidential suite as well as 5 one-bedroom suites and 12 two-bedroom parlor suites.

The standard rooms are on floors 1-4 and are 344 square feet. Deluxe rooms are on floors 5 and 6 and are 381 square feet. All rooms have balconies.
...
Floors 5-6 have Deluxe rooms. Concierge rooms are the same as the Deluxe rooms. These have one of 2 views: Pool or Savannah. The rooms can be configured as either 2 Queens; 1 Queen and Bunk Beds; King Bed and Daybed; Handicapped Accessible with King Bed and Daybed. The 6th Floor is exclusively Concierge

the rooms on the 5th and 6th floor are bigger in size...you can tell by looking at the balconies...the ones on the 5/6th floor "stick out" more...

Please see my post about half-way down the thread. If anyone does need a room for five. As always, let CRO know that you need the room with the daybed to accomodate five people. I would also let concierge know if you are staying concierge.

Our two bedroom suite had a deluxe room lock off for the second bedroom. That did have the queen/bunk/day bed configuration in it.

...waiting for some word re: my email that I sent AKL concierge regarding room requests and switching from concierge back to std after 1 day....hope they respond soon:rolleyes: ! Has anyone else emailed AKL concierge? How quick was the response? Were they helpful??

We just got back from WDW yesterday. We are a family of 4 and stayed at AKL. We had a deluxe room on the 5th floor with a BEAUTIFUL view of the animals. Saw different animals every day. Was very special for our kids. However, the service was lacking. We had dirty sheets the day we checked in, and husband had to call twice to get them changed, and then had to go downstairs to guest services for resolution. Manager said he would send someone right up. Took over an hour for someone to come change the sheets, and then took almost 30 minutes to change the sheets. We were guaranteed they would be changed daily (we had a 7 night stay), and they were never changed thereafter. Was very disappointed in cleanliness of hotel and housekeeping. I hate sleeping in someone else's dirty sheets! :earseek:

Oh that is just awful! I don't blame you for being upset. I do hope they resolve this problem quickly and I am so sorry your vacation was affected by this. There is no good reason for leaving dirty linen on a bed!

Kimmar>> Wait three days, then email back referring to the previous email. I sometimes had to wait a few days, then some days we'd play email tag all day long! Have faith, you're going to have a great trip! Their IPO is great!
