if I have an existing reservation at say, OKW, and at 7 months I want to change that reservation to another DVC resort and I call Member Services to make the change can Member Services hold the new reservation while cancelling the current reservation? If I want to do this myself online I would need to first cancel my reservation and then try to book the new one. There is a small amount of risk involved in that I might not get the new reservation and lose the old one.

I was wondering if I can avoid this risk by going through member services.

Calling is best, but if its a busy time you might not get through without a long wait. Like now when it appears many are trying to switch for early Dec. And yes, MS can hold the room, but its not a 100% guarantee.

I have been told by DVC that not all CM's can hold reservations.

MS will not hold both rooms for you, however, the CM you reach can hold what you are trying to book while you cancel what is already booked online.

MS won't hold it for you. You can do it yourself: http://disboards.com/threads/making...n-you-go-ahead-of-time.3461485/#post-54707122

I just had a reservation switched last month and MS held the room until they canceled the original reservation. Maybe it depends on the CM you get when you call.

I think they can hold rooms for you, but some CMs may need the assistance of a senior CM or Supervisor to do this. They are more likely to do this when they are less busy.

MS does not hold rooms when someone needs to change a reservation. All they do is MODIFY the existing reservation. Nothing is cancelled on the existing reservation. The CM just searches for availability on the new dates/resort, if it's available then they just switch it. That's it. No managers are needed, and there are no 'Senior CMs' there. lol

I have switched reservations several times. Sometimes I have called, because the room that was on my wait list hadn't gone through, but it was available online. I usually always call.

Not long ago some CM's had a different level of access to the system that MS uses. Managers, team line, some member satisfaction, maybe leads? They could hold reservations without modifying them. The system might be different today, I talk to MS as little as possible now so I haven't kept up with the latest.

The only time a reservation is held per se, is when Team Line booked a reservation in a fake name, then it was modified by the VA and/or TL. Team Line CMs are just Vacation Advisors with a different system with a bit more capabilities. Managers, Member Satisfaction don't do tasks like that. And there are no 'Leads' at MS. They have had the same system for a while, so not much has changed. MS uses the same programs for dining, DME, MM+, etc that DRC/WDW use except for the reservation program for DVC resorts.
