Calling Halloween Cruisers!

Maybe I shouldn't say this (showing my age) but I am starting to enjoy the stay at the resorts better than going to the parks.:bounce: We just love OKW.

The last time we went we stayed in CB and although my knees really didn't like the hike to breakfast in the morning I loved coming back to the room and enjoying the peace and quiet. We have also been at OKW with friends who are DVC (not Tom and Jan). We were in a two bedroom suite and loved it. That time was the Halloween trip and we did MNSSH with a then one year old. He slept thru most of the parade but loved the parks and still talks about Uncle Phil and can't wait for us to go along so they can do "stuff" together. We stayed some years ago at the Contemporary and enjoyed that too. Often we stay off property because we have our own car and enjoy the driving around Orlando seeing other things. I will admit that this last time in February we were more relaxed because we didn't have any MUST dos. We finally looked over all the other resorts one day and played miniture golf. Which I won, much to my surprise. It was a fun day and ended at the Wilderness Lodge for dinner at the Artists' Point. Where we had a fabulous meal of things we would never eat at home. Mostly cause we couldn't get them around here. Well off to work now. Estelle

EMMA: What a worthwhile way to spend the day :)
What did your costume look like? did you make it yourself? Anyone want your picture taken with their little girl?

We booked nine months out and it seemed like forever until embarkation day would arrive. :( But then I found DIS and spending time getting to know you all has gotten me through the doldrums of the winter.
:) THANKS HALLOWEEN CRUISERS!! :)

Woooo HOOOO!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

DH just agreed to a day at the Magic Kingdom!!! And a night at the hotel of my choice!! (either Contemporary, GF or the Poly!) I'll probably take the Contemporary as that is my favorite... but it's only one night, so maybe I should try a different one.

Yeahhhh!!!

!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: Yay Suzanne :bounce: :Pinkbounc !!
Have a ball!!
Jan :earsgirl:

Suzanne - How Exciting!!! I vote for the Poly, a new adventure, maybe do the luau and they got a great pool. Tell us what you decide. Patty :earsgirl:

I'm pretty sure we are going to go with the Contemporary in the TOWER! ( where the monorail goes through). We've always stayed in the wings, so just being in the tower would be cool. We can splurge for one night there, as I don't think I'd spend a regular vacation there because of the price difference between the wings & the tower.
This will be the frosting on the cake of our cruise! ;)

Great Suzanne,
Will we still be meeting you and your family at the Radisson the night before the cruise? If so we'll want a complete report of your stay at the Contemp.

Emma can you use that costume for cruise or do you have another in mind?

Ginger- Yes, we will be at the Radisson Friday night. I haven't purchased the airline tickets yet, but I'm looking at flying into Orlando for 12:00 noon, so we'll be there rather early.

You'll have to wait to hear about the Contemporary because we are doing that after the cruise. :) And then heading home Sunday. I'll report back via the boards. ;)

We stayed at the Cont. in 1998. It was awesome. Dh was there for a conference and I flew in for the weekend. Taking the monorail to the park is the best benefit I think. We may do a character meal there this year after the cruise.

Ok, ladies what are your plans for attire on the formal/semi-formal nites? I've been playing at ebay and found one or two things I have my eye on. Dh is going to do the tux package and we'll try to do Formal nite (Monday), Palo's (another night) and semi-formal (Thurs) with him in the tux - get our money's worth. Since Thurs *is* Halloween, I may try to do a fancy princess dress for my attire that night.

Anyone else shopping?

Well since you ask... I have been shopping since the day after we signed on. I have a lovely long straight black skirt. And I bought a beaded jacket and a beaded blouse. Both were thrift shop buys and so were total under $25. Also bought a couple of Hawaiian type shirts for the DH. He will, under duress, wear a dark jacket and nice shirt and tie for the semi formal meal. I have a costume in mind for the Halloween meal. No mask just a dress type costume with something on my head. I have made myself stop looking at clothes and thinking gee that would be great for October. Right now I am actually thinking of the things I can buy in a week and a half in LLBean. I wonder if they have a cruise department... I'm guessing the answer to that is no. Actually it better be no. Dog sitting tonight eldest and youngest DDs went to Atlantic City with friends so I must go and put the dog out. Estelle

Suzanne - Wow the Tower! Sounds like that would be a good choice. I know all we could afford would be one night there so I'd go for it myself.

Debby - Months ago Lord & Taylor had a big sale so I bought two dresses. I don't think I paid more than $50 for the two. One is black and the other is a dark teal. My hubby will just wear his grey suit. I'm trying to talk him into buying a black suit. He won't wear a tux. He says "What will they do, throw me off the ship if I don't wear black on formal night!" Patty:earsgirl:

I have 2 formal black skirts 1 is full and flowing the other makes me look slimmer. So I have not decided yet which to bring it will depend on how well I do on my reduction plan. I have a dark blue semi formal dress. My DH wears a dark suit and white shirt with a Mickey tie.
BTY: To all the husbands my DH starts to shed the tie and jacket as soon as we hit the table.

Do you suppose semi-formal night will be changed to a different night to encourage or enable people to wear costumes on Thursday--Halloween to dinner?

Jan :earsgirl:

It was white with silver flowers on it. We hired all the costumes so no, im not wearing it on the cruise but Im borrowing my mums long black witchy dress that I wore last Halloween.

Seems to be a guy thing. Most of the DHs on this thread have an aversion to the idea of a tux. I suspect mine will be removing his jacket and tie at the table too. It would be nice if they moved the semi formal dinner to another night. Altho the costume I have in mind would be all right at a semi formal dinner. I might actually be a bit over dressed.
We are back to the hazy hot and humid stuff. I am beginning to dream about fall and lazy days on a ship.
Personally if I had one night at any of the resorts I think I would go with the tower in the Contemporary too. I remember the first time I ever saw pictures of the monorail going thru the tower in the Contemporary at Disneyland. Walt was explaining how it worked and boy did I want to go there. The whole concept was appealing. Unfortunately we lived in New Jersey and there was no way we were going to California. Had to grow up and visit Florida instead. Estelle

Just was reading on another thread about taking beach bags and towels on excursions or on a beach day. Some took the towels offered as you disembark the DCL ship, others also took their own beach towels that they bought at a port for a souviner or had brought from home.

Then someone said,......we "Packed in the bag - towels, SUNBLOCK!!!!, camera, film, t-shirts, water bottles, snacks. We had our KTTW card/money in the little holders you can buy on board which are waterproof and hang around your neck. Also packed a spray bottle to fill with water to spritz off. Oh yeah and this is a great thing to pack - Baby powder. When you put it on over your sandy legs, feet, etc., the sand just falls off and you are all clean again. No need to drag sand onto the boat or your stateroom." :Pinkbounc

Also--did you know that wearing a white t-shirt to keep the sun off your back works when it is dry, but not when it is wet? The sunburn can happen through a wet white shirt. We take black ones to snorkel in so our backs are not lobstered. It has worked real well so far.

The spritzer bottle and baby powder are things I will go put in my Red "Mickey" Disney Store bag of stuff to take on the cruise. Excuse me, I am going to do that now. :Pinkbounc

Jan :earsgirl:

I've never taking a spray bottle with us, I didn't feel the need. Do you really thinks it going to be that hot anywhere? We are traveling the end of October.

GREAT NEWS!

I went by Party City today and in the window they had a HUGE display of leis. They had green!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

They're regular green (did we talk about light green at some point?) and I bought 24 to start with - they were $ 0.25 each and I can go get more, just wished I had my list with me to remember how many we needed. Can we have a mini rollcall of who wants them? I can definitely hit them for another set as needed.

We'll bring them to the Radisson for all of us staying the night before and then we can hand the rest out at our first get-together (which is when/where???)

I am SOOOO excited!

I may not need the spritzer bottle, but I am bringing it. The other times we cruised in the fall it was hot, especially on Deck 10 on our Sea Days. (this is here to represent being hot, not mad)

DEBBIE--Sign us up for two green leis. Whatever color green you can get is what you can get. When do you want your money? We will be at the Radisson Friday night for the big MEETING at the pool. Didn't we say 7:00?? :Pinkbounc

Are we going to try to do dinner together? or just a social gathering and people do whatever dinner they want, when they want it?
