Calling Halloween Cruisers!

I agree with you Jan. When I went to see Phantom Of The Opera in Toronto years ago I wore a nice dress, not too flashy. The majority of the people were dressed that way too.
Emma, when are you going to see Carmen? Patty :earsgirl:

Since the opera is in Italy after your singing tour, I would suggest you plan to wear something that packs well and maybe even something you are wearing other days but with some jewelry or even a fancy lace collar to dress it up.

A friend of mine and I went to a convention a couple weeks ago. She had a plain black dress that packs well had does not need to be ironed. She brought along a Battenberg lace collar and put it on after putting on the dress. It looked wonderful.

Today in one of my grocery stores I found something that might be like the Jaffee (?sp) cakes you were talking about. English biscuit with marshmallow and jam covered in chocolate. The box said that they were originally made by the Peek family in London but this box was imported from Canada. All I can find similar that is American is chocolate cookie covered in Marshmallow and then chocolate coating.

i think I'm gonna take a complete seperate dress anyway, I want it to be different since it's our last night, my friend's taking a travel iron anyway so i'll be ok.

Costumes??? Anyone else working on theirs yet? I'm still searching the thrift shops for DH'S old looking tux. Anyone going to decorate their stateroom door?

My friends wanted to decorate their door with some Disney beanies wearing masks. That made me a bit nervous so I e-mailed Barb (platinum castaway club) and asked what she thought. She said that she has seen people decorate doors with paper decorations but would be concerned that someone would "appropriate" the Beanies. Sad, but not everyone is honest, even on a Disney cruise I guess.

We don't do much with Halloween--the warnings about pins and razors in treats ruined it for me years ago when my kids were little so we only let them go to the homes of friends in the later years before they were tired of it. Finally we just let each buy a whole bag of fun sized candy of his choice and pig out. We do distribute treats to neighborhood kids now when we are home. We are planning to bring something for the DIS treasure-hunt-trick-or-treating but will not be dressing up ourselves.

The other thing that makes it difficult for us to participate in Halloween is all the stuff in the news about people who really take it as a special holiday and claim to be witches and devil worshippers. And they are serious about it. There is just too much negative stuff in the world and I do not understand why we want any excuse for more. I always give two treats to the kids in cute costumes and only one to the kids who are dressed as gory or hurtful people.

Jan :earsgirl:

Over here, that's the whole point of it. It's Ole Hallow's eve after all so most brits can't understand the need to dress up as superman and stuff.

Emma--does that mean that most people dress up gory? What are the "Ole Hallow's Eve" traditions and history?
Jan :earsgirl:

Hi everybody we're on the Halloween cruise too. We are going with Jan and her DH. There are just the two adults. Neither of us have ever been on a cruise and are really looking forward to the experience. We are long time Disney people and I am a pin collector and trader. We are the ones who wanted to do our door decoration using beanies in masks. And I may still do it we'll see. I will definately be doing a costume of some sort but the DH probably won't. We are looking forward to meeting all of you. Really won't be that long. After all summer vacation is already here. Estelle

WELCOME TO THE THREAD ESTELLE! :D

Your entry booted this thread from page two to page one. CONGRARTS.

I think we will be having a nice time adding all these Halloween Cruisers to our list of friends.

See you not soon enough!

Jan :earsgirl:

Welcome Aboard ehtpnt,

I can't wait to see your stateroom door with those masked beanies. How do plan on doing that, with a wreath. We didn't have any problems last year with things hanging on our door we also had little things hanging on the hand rails by our door. There is a fish thingy outside the doors to hold notes and letters, I saw people using those for hanging decoration too.

Time will fly by.

Estelle!!

I look forward to getting to know you. :)

I thought about a wreath but I'm not really very crafty. I have a friend who is however and I'm planning on getting her to help me. I have another friend who sews and has agreed to make my costume. Have a few ideas running around in my head but nothing definate yet. No Jan it won't be gory. But maybe a wee bit scary. We'll see what develops.

Hi Estelle - You are going to love your first cruise on the Disney Magic. My hubby and I have cruised only once before and it was on the Magic and it was one of our best vacations. There was so much for adults to do plus it was so relaxing too. We were never bored. I agree with you, I think these last 5 months will go fast!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I have a question about trick or treating. Does anyone have some idea of the number of persons who will be doing it? I also have the Oriental Trader Cataloque and will be ordering from that. But I would like to have an idea of numbers. I'm really not interested in lugging a whole bunch of toys bach to Pa. with me. And I think the DH would have problems with it too.

I have read that some of the Cruisers are planning for 24 children trick-or-treating.

I was also wondering if we could share what non-candy items we have in mind so we don't duplicate.

Or would that take the fun out of it? What do you think?

Jan :earsgirl:

I think that's a great idea. Do you have the Oriental Trader Catalogue? If you don't we probably have a number around. I also figured I would wait to order until the Fall one arrives. Should have Halloween things in it. Twenty four seems like a nice reasonable number. By the way totally off the subject is anyone elses' grass growing very quickly? My DH has to mow twice a week and it isn't making him happy. It is making the rabbits happy however. Wonderful Thumper and Flower forage. Thanks again for the suggestion I think it is a great one. Estelle

Hi Estelle, Gheez, I did reply to your post but it did not show up that has been happening alot with my postings. I placed an order online with OT, 2 doz of everything. Some Halloween stuff was on sale. I am so glad you will be joining in costume and all. It's always more fun looking from the inside out than outside in.
Our grass drives my DH crazy grows faster than the rabbits. Even when we have such dry weather, under ground spring feed it.
Jan I don't think telling what you ordered would be much fun since some of our t-or-ters can read these post.
The only thing I ask is no peanut products, please.
