Calling for room assignment?

Has anyone ever called their resort ahead of arrival to check to see if a room has been assigned to you? I faxed a room request to ASmu yesterday and was wondering if I called them if they would be able to tell me if a room had been assigned. We arrive on Saturday. Waste of time or should I give it a go?????

Sorry to say they will not confirm the room on the phone. The reasoning behind this is that they cannot guarantee the room and sometimes things happen and they may have to switch rooms around. I am sure they will try their best to fill your request though.

I have called and had a CM tell me that as of the time I called all my requests were granted and I was assigned a great room, but there was no gaurantee that the room would not be given away when I got there. Needless to say, when I got there the room had been given away to someone else who had griped they did not like the room they were in. I am not sure why they even try assigning rooms ahead of time.
