I am not a world traveler....IS there such a thing as a phone card that I can buy here in the U.S so DH and DD can call me from England and Scotland? I don't think the regular ATT cards you buy here in the U.S. will work will they? I was told No, by my MIL but I want another opinion. I figure she is right since you have to call a # before you place your call and the # is probably a US #. Our Verizon cell phones will not work. Some other cell phone carriers do but ours..NOPE! figures. I will probably post this on the UK board too. Thanks in advance.

I have a daughter who lives in London.. I cannot call her on my cell phone as it is not international.. I do call her from my house, I have verizon for my carrier, and talk to her then..

I am not sure if there is an International calling card that you can buy... I do hope you get answer so with my answer I am bumping this up.. :)

We used AT&T cards from Sam's in Spain and France. What we had to do was call them (with the number on the back) and ask for the phone numbers to connect in each country. The numbers are different in every country. It definitely used more minutes per minute to call from out of the US (hope that makes sense), but it definitely served the purpose. The minute worth is different between countries also. I hope that helps!!

Now I maybe mistaken, wouldn't be the first time, but I think you have to specifically buy a calling card that says international. In the plastic with the card should be a listing of international operators with their number. There is directions on the card on how to call the operator and then connect with the person you want to call. I know that AT&T make international calling cards because I've sent several to my Matt and then you can reload them if need be.

Why not get them an international cell phone? We were just in Italy, and we had a cell phone froom cellphonesabroad.com, and it was fine.

I have done the same with the AT&T card from Sam's. Last year I used it from China and Spain to call back home. As mentioned, call to find out the code from the country you are calling from.

Thank you all for the info and ideas. The cell phone sounds like a great idea except DD and DH will not be together for the whole trip ( games, differant hotels )and I really don't want to give her a cell phone. She is a responsible girl (15) but if she ever lost it etc.......I have some regular calling cards purchased at SAMS CLUB but they do not mention international calls anywhere on them. I don't have the original paper work that went with them. I am going to call ATT to see if I can get the numbers for international calls. On the cards it just mentions US and CANADA. I am going to go to SAMS and WALMART today to see if I can find one that has international info and #'s on it. Thank you again for the info. I just want to be able to reach them and have them be able to reach me while they are gone.
