Good morning 😃 I know that there are some families on this board that homeschool. Our schools have been shut down for three weeks due to the cornavirus so I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to get lesson plans ect so my fourth grader and ninth grader don’t fall behind. Thanks!

They aren’t doing remote learning?

I wasn't homeschooled, but while my daughter is off for the next week from her school, she's going to be doing lessons on Khan Academy. Also, based on some material she's learning, I'll find some websites for her to learn more about what she's currently studying.

My husband, who was homeschooled always said that one part of their lessons was basic life skills in order to take care of themselves (meal planning, budgeting, etc.) It was all based on age at the time.

Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.

If you're planning very short term, I would also 2nd Khan Academy.

If you want to let your 9th grader explore some alternate interests at the same time, the Great Courses would be nice 30 minutes chunks on a topic.

As for educational tv for the 4th and 9th graders, Disney+ National Geo section has some nice nature and historical videos.

I would think this would also be a good time to let them explore their interests. If they will be in school after this event, the schools will have to start where they left off, so getting ahead won't "help"...but having time to explore their passions and hobbies and to learn deeply in those areas (to see if they might do them later) might be great.

If they aren't doing remote learning then the rest of the schools in your area won't be either. They won't be behind. A good thing to do would be teach life skills like laundry, cooking etc. 3 weeks is not a lot of time to get a handle on a curriculum. Have your 9th grader pick a classic book and do a report on it. Read aloud to your younger.

Review math facts for both kids and maybe some math formulas for the older.

Look into IXL subscription for various subjects at different prices for your fourth grader.
Prodigy math for video game style math practice.
Typing programs
Duolingo for fun way to learn a new language.

There is a link circulating of a ton of websites providing resources to teachers/families during this time. It's a growing google document, posted online and Facebook but I can't find it at the moment.

As a Reading Coach with 33 years classroom experience I also suggest life skills. This is something that is seriously lacking in our society. Also, Coronavirus or not kids should be reading something of their own interests daily. If they are non readers parents should be reading to them. Ok off my soapbox now. 😊

I used to play games with my hs kids as a way to learn while having fun, home-ec skills are useful too while they're with you..cooking,cleaning,budgeting,food shopping, laundry etc.

We did hs for a few years. Concur with everyone else on Khan Academy. Excellent math program.

Education . com is offering free weekly worksheet packets. Those would be especially helpful for your younger child. I was looking at using them for my first grader that I homeschool for a nice change. 🙂

Does anyone have a recommendation for online Latin resources? I never took it, and DS stinks at it. It's the one subject I'm worried about him not keeping up with. He's in Prima Latina at school.
