We have a 2 year old in our family who is a big eater and I was wondering - can we purchase the DDP for him? I realize he would be free at any buffets but I think other than that it would be to our advantage. Let me know if this is possible. Thanks so much!

You can ask them to up his age and purchase the DDP, but there are other things to consider. This means you have to purchase a park ticket for him (unless you're DVC reservation). And if you're in a room at capacity (2 adults, 2 children and one child under 3) this would change the capacity of your room. If these other things work out, then it might work out to your advantage. We usually just purchase meals for our grand daughter when she travels with us (she is almost 2).

The only way I would ever consider this is if you are DVC and the extra would not cause you to go over room capacity. Honestly wiht allthe other food at the table the most you would be paying OOP is an extra kids meal--not all that much and etween the others at the table it may be very easy to share to make up for the food your 2yo eats. All items at CS can be purchased a la carte if you ask so an extra hotdog, but sharing fries and stuff from the other CS's used would only cost like $3.99 (about hte same price as if you purhcased a kids combo if the choices there don't appeal to you). Now at TS that are not buffet again a kids meal is only a few dollars. Look at the difference in price between the need to purchase ticket media and the cost of the DDP per day and you are going to find in less expensive to pay OOP for the few food itmes you may need. Once you factor the ticket media in there is no question that paying out of pocket for a few items for a child far outweighs the alternative.

I'm not sure it would be worthwhile to do....

With all the DDP food (apps, entree, dessert for the adults), there's probably plenty for him to nibble at. And at buffets (or all you can eat offerings at places like WCC or Ohana's), he gets his own plate and he eats free. The worst you would probably find is paying OOP for a CS kids meal and/or TS kids meal...and over the entire trip I'm not sure, unless you were doing "menu" TS places every night, that the OOP cost would be more than the DDP cost. I'd sit down and work out the numbers (if you haven't, already) before doing anything....
