hi there...
I am absolutely not and never really had any interest in being a greenthumb..
so now I need some help...

I would like to go out and buy some fairly inexpensive annuals (sp??) flowers..
the ones that will bloom every year after you plant them..

anyone out there know what to buy ?? ones that are fairly easy to take care of ??
many thanks.

Actually, it sounds like you're looking for perennials, not annuals. Annuals usually bloom for just the one season. Perennials return year after year.

I'm no great gardener but in the fall, I always add more daffodil and tulip bulbs. They'll bloom in the spring and I love that first sign that winter is over. :teeth: Something you can plant right now for this summer is roses. There are a lot of varieties that are pretty low maintenance. Check with your local nursery for help. You can also plant daisies and black eyed susans and chrysanthemums, they'll come back each year and are low maintenance, too. :teeth: Can you tell "low maintenance" are my two favorite words when it comes to gardening?

Good luck! I never thought I'd be a gardener--I have a black thumb with indoor plants but I rock at these perennials!

You want to buy Perennials, They come back after winter. You will need to know what "zone" you are in and go from there. I am a zone 5, so I have alot of Day lilys, they take up alot of room and would be hard to kill. A local nursery would be very helpful. Have fun and good luck!

We have Tiger lillies, coreospis (sp?) and for climbing flowers I have Clematis (again sp?) and daisies. I want more I just don't know what. For annuals I love Cosmos (if you get lucky a few will pop up the next year). I have tried to do the Black eyed susans but they never come up (I keep taking my neighbors seeds and throwing them on the ground in my garden, I think the birds eat them up) I also like the old standby Sunflowers, but mine all died a few years ago and I haven't replanted any.

I have tried to do Gladiolas but they only last a few years in my area unless you dig the bulbs up ever year. Irises are pretty too.

thank you thank you thank you...

i am LOLing to myself..you guys are right .... i was referring to perennials...

i could not even get the right term .... i am such a greenthumb .. NOT !!

thanks again.

My mom is just like NMAmy, the lower the maintenance the better. She has lilies, dasies, and morning glories because they are the easiest flowers to take care of. All they require is watering. I also have two perennial hibiscus bushes. They come back year and year no problem. They don't get very big and have beautiful flowers.

Check with your local nursery as to what grows best. If you ask for low maintenance flowers, they will find them for you.
