My daughter is going on her very first trip with the school to Pat's Peak for snowboarding tomorrow (Saturday). It is supposed to be a high temp of zero. Should I send her on the trip? There are chaperones and such. She will be taking a lesson in the morning and on her own the rest of the day.

I have her long johns, and typical warm ski wear, and I am going to get some of those "hot hands" packets to bring with her.

Will she be ok? She's a smart kid and would just hang out inside if she is too cold.

She should be fine. My son's headed off to ski in Quebec on Sunday and their forecasting weather as low as -44 degree Celsius which is -47.2 degree Fahrenheit!

I've packed him everything I can imagine to keep him warm - she's definitely got warmed weather than he has!

the ski resort will shut down.......where my daughter works partime in the winter.......they shut down almost two weeks because the wind chill and regular temp was ten below zero.......hope they have a good time

Cool, thanks. I feel better about letting her go. I got some of the hot hand packets for her to bring. I will have her dress tonight to see how everything fits. And to make sure she knows exactly what she needs to keep on.

If you have, or can find one, I would get her a balaclava hat as well. It can keep her warm as a hat, and if she is freezing cold, she can pull it up over her face as well. DS has a fleece one, and he loves it.

My son looked at me like I had three heads when I bought him two to take with him. Given the frigid temps on the mountain in Quebec right now, I think he might be thanking me for them (and the homemade cookies packed in his backpack) when he gets home!

When Jes got home from school, there was a notice that they cancelled the trip until the 24th. Now we can do some crafty things together, hopefully. She already started in on "can someone sleep over"!!!!

Just a note about those super hat things.

We all have them that we wear under our snomobile helmets, however...all 3 of us (DD's and I)...can NOT wear them under our ski helmets. It does not allow our helmet to sit correctly on our head.

If your child wears a helmet, they dont need a hat while there moving..only a face protector and goggles. (I sure hope all of your kids wear helmets..)....

My helmet has 8 holes in the top, and my heads still never cold...

FYI- our school ski's on Sunday's- and as long as its above zero at the base, we go.

Oh those warmers are great, I have them here by the case. I put them in my boots...ha..warm feet!

Pat's Peak, boy does that bring back memories!

At a ski area that size shall never be more than a few minutes away from the base lodge so I wouldn't worry too much about the cold temperatures.

Besides, the gets too cold to just hang out in the lodge. Kinda like going to the mall.

my only recommendation is a scarf or something to wrap around the face but be very careful not to have loose ends that could get caught in the lift equipment.

I hope she has fun.
