Calling all SINGLE solo travelers

I am 33, now single, love Disney (thanks to my Darling Daughter) and will be in the world in July.

Does anyone have suggestions for males traveling to Disney with their children?

How old is your daughter? What characters does she like? I might have some suggestions, but they depend on her age, obviously a little kid likes different things than an older one. Let me know.

I have an idea (perhaps it has not been posted). If Disney feels compelled to have a Gay Day, why not have a Singles Day? That would be too cool! To have a day designated for us solo travelers would be fun!

I guess I could qualify as a Disney loving man. I been crazy about Disney since I was part of the College Program the summer of 1993 and 1995. I've only made it back once since then in 2002. Being in the Army has not really given me the opportunity to make it back until now. I'm head down for 5 days in September and I'm count the days until then. It hard to expain to the guys I work with how I know the names of the Seven Dwarfs. I really enjoy reading this board it lets me know I'm not alone.

I'll be going SOLO for the first time May 23-27. I am kinda worried about getting lonely but I just figure if I keep busy (which is about the easiest thing to do at Disney) that I'll be fine. I'm not the type to get lonely but being far away from home without anyone I know to talk to for a week may be a bit weird. I'm banking on enjoying myself more than ever during this trip though.

I'm bringing my IPOD and laptop and will fill it with Disney related podcasts so I can listen to them while back at the hotel alone in the evenings.

Any other advice you seasoned solo travellers can give me would be nice. TIA

Take this time to really "regroup". I take solo trips and try to totally take in everything that is around me. Watching children's faces light up during parades, sitting down in some quite spots to people watch. And you will be surprised at how many people you will talk to, and who will talk to you.

As a Christian, I totally love my solo trips. That is my "God and Debbie" time and He really does reveal himself to me. I come back knowing myself better and better appreciating those around me. Works for me!

Actually, Gay Day/Gay Week is not an officially sanctioned Disney event, it is organized solely by other organizations.

Disney has a fine line to walk with that event. If they endorse it, they draw the ire of religious groups. If they do anything to prevent it, they draw the ire of gay rights groups, not to mention losing revenue from the extra people who attend. So Disney does the only thing they can: they globnik (5 points to anybody who can name the origin of that term!), which means to pretend the whole thing never happened.

A singles day/singles week would open up Disney to all kinds of trouble. Things might not get as wild as they do at Mardi Gras or Spring Break, but I doubt that Disney will ever hold any official events geared specifically toward singles, since thier whole image is that of a family-oriented company.

But that doesn't mean we can't hold singles meets ourselves. Disney would simply globnik.

Maybe we could have a singles meet at MouseFest.

I am a 30 something male. I like Disney parks, but love theme and amusement parks. I'm not a Disney freak...um....fan like some people. I love thrill rides!

I never knew there were so many single women on the DIS. If I knew, I'd have signed up on the DIS earlier.

BAHAHA! Bill, is that your real name?! If so, that might creep me out a bit. If not, you earn lots of pieces of Disney Flair (my own system of kudos).

Thanks for offering help! My daughter is 12, which is really an awkward age as far as Disney goes. She really loves it, but at times is "too cool" to admit it. She really likes the thrill rides but still likes to have her picture taken with the occasional character. She also enjoys sit down meals and shows.

I do think sometimes it is hard on her traveling with only her father. I am still fairly young, she is twelve but in all seriousness looks like she is ready for college. Sometimes we get strange looks or people don't recognize that we are father and daughter. People can be brutal if you know what I mean. Any suggestions here would be appreciated also.

Also any suggestions for things to do in the world but outside of the parks would be greatly appreciated.

I will, however be taking a looong 13 night use-up-my-DVC-points-and-annual-pass trip this August since I probably won't be able to go back down for a few years , and that trip will be virtually 100% solo since my friend who was supposed to come can't come anymore... I'm a little worried-- I'm a very social person, and I do tend to feel awkward when alone! I'm determined to have a good time, though because I'll be taking the bar exam the week before, and I'm sure I'll need a break!!

Haha...I feel your pain. I'm 28, and since my mom passed away in December, I've spent a lot of time with my dad. We go to the same church, and for the longest time several people at church thought we were a couple LOL Anyway, if you guys would like to meet up at all when you're here, let me know...I live 10 miles away and love meeting new people.

How about a backstage, behind the scenes tour?

I bet she'd think it was really neat being able to go to some of the backstage parts of Disneyworld and see things many people never get to see. They offer a number of tours that allow children.

Or maybe a special dinner at one of the more "grown up" restaurants. I know when I was her age, I always loved when my parents took my brother and I to a nice restaurant and we got to dress up.

Another possibility is to set up something special through Gifts of a Lifetime. http://www.giftsofalifetime.com/ Maybe a park scavenger hunt?

Then there are always the just around the resort and parks things. Renting boats on Disney's lakes, horseback riding and carriage rides at Fort Wilderness.
